Title: Preparing tiny pendrive for Bios update...only FAT ? (880gma-ud2h)
Post by: Kenshiro on June 29, 2011, 11:32:20 pm
Hi all,

I'm getting things ready to prepare stuff for the upcoming new build I will perform with a 880GMA-ud2h.
Reading carefully through Gigabytes instructions for updating Bios it says :

Q-Flash only supports USB flash drive or hard drives using FAT32/16/12 file system.

Alright, so I found this tiny pendrive in a drawer with only 32MB capacity, ideal to flash a Bios (which weights a bit more than 1MB)

Windows 7 only allows me to format in FAT, not even FAT32/16/12...--> See pic (http://i54.tinypic.com/1zzi0bb.jpg)

I tried the Command Prompt method -> format /FS:FAT32 X:  (Being X your Drive letter)....it finished and it said.... "volume is too small for fat32"...
Arghhh!!!!

So, I can only format this 32MB drive in FAT....will the mobo be able to read it when I Q-Flash the Bios before I do the Win 7 installation?
Or should i tak a bigger pendrive of 4 GB for instance?

Any advice?

Cheers,
Ken

Since FAT is what floppy disks was used to be formatted at, yes it should be fine.

In fact isnt FAT and FAT16 the same thing? FAT32 you only need to bother with if you have more than 4GB available (like on a memory card)

Fat 16 or 32 will be fine on a 32mb pen-drive.........but remember .........some pen-drives can give problem no matter what size they are.......if you have problems..........change brand/size and try again!

I agree with what the others have said already but if you want to feel free to use a larger  drive anyway. 4 GB should be fine.
