Title: CPU running..cold!?
Post by: Fizzy on July 29, 2011, 04:00:33 pm
Now this is strange: my core readings show 46 / 42 / 45 / 45c, but my CPU temp is showing -46c !
(No typo: 46 below 0c. And no, i am not on a patio writing to you from Antartica.

First time I notice this. Don't remember seeing this before. I did tweak my memory frequency and XMS , but i cannot see how that would have any bearing ..

Any ideas?

  Frosty Fizzy....Welcome

Bloody hell! how cold is it in Canada at the moment!

And  How did you manage to fit the monitor and an office chair into the blast freezer as well ?

If your offering to run classes to do the same to my rig,.... Where do I sign up ;D

It does sound like a BIOS twitch......was it a resent update ?

Besides that, .... wouldn't have a clue as to the CPU or board for that matter, but the cooler is doing its job nicely with those core temps.... at a guess of 18 to 24C ambient temp !

I assume that you mean that your BIOS is showing that negative CPU temperature? If so, then join the club! Several of us have reported something very similar happening in a variety of P55 motherboards. I'd suggest you report it to Gigabyte Tech Support, Taiwan. Can't recall how to get to the required URL for them but I don't doubt that Dark Mantis (moderator) will assist you there.

I gave extensive amounts of evidence to Tech Support about this some months ago but they maintained constantly that they couldn't reproduce the problem. But it's been abundantly clear to everyone concerned that there's in all probability a bug in the core BIOS code for the P55 series that renders negative CPU temperatures in the Health Status section of the BIOS under certain conditions. There's a workaround for it, involving the turning off in the BIOS of one or more energy-saving settings, and again DM or others can fill you in on the details.

Do tell Tech Support about it, as the more who bother to report it, the more Tech Support won't be able to ignore it.

Sorry Fizzy...... the Humour kicked in there.....Forumjoe had it right though, ... the more people that report it the better to Giga.....us the PM service to DM (dark Mantis) and he'll forward the support portal to you

It's worth a few lines but does it really make a difference ,.... I suspect this will be the priority given to an older platform, but then again I've been wrong once before  ;)  Tee Hee!

Hi

forumjoe is quite right and it is in everyones's interest to let Gigabyte know about the issues. I don't think it is a massive problem in numbers but if you happen to be one of those affected it is an annoyance. It is either a faulty sensor, but with the figures reported I doubt that, or a BIOS code error. Anyway let GGTS know about it here :

Just enter your email address and click on the language of choice.

Please expect several days for a reply.

Thanks for the assistance.  I sent them an email, but like you mentioned, as it's an older model and the bug has no real negative impact,"we who are frost-bitten", will probably have to live with it. :)

Well we can only hope. Please do let us know if you get a meaningful response to it though. ;)
