Title: Cool n Quiet and MA770-UD3 while overclocking
Post by: JacoX on October 01, 2009, 12:02:17 am
Hello

I´ve overclocked my X3 720BE to 3.2 trough the multi , 16X, but i cannot have CnQ working properly.
It is enabled in the bios, but the OS, WIN 7, does not have the option available, leaving the CPU running at 3.2 at all times.

So is it possible to have OC and CnQ enabled by any way?

Many Thanks

Hi

I don't think that this will work as CnQ requires CPU not to be full loaded. And if you overclock it then it's even overloaded.

Just try with default CPU settings to check if CnQ will work or not.

and remember not to select “Performance” on Win 7 power management scheme setting as it disables CnQ

Thanks for the reply.
With stock speed CnQ works even with performance power management  setting enabled.
I´l try to choose another power setting and see if iti works.

Thank you:)

So any idea  if  that it´s an OS limitation/config or in fact t OC and CnQ is a no go?
Many thanks

What are you using to check? CPU-z?

Yes i´m using cpu-z.
Should i use another?

So it never clocks down no matter what load? Is the BIOS up to date? I am not that familiar with AMD systems but I guess it is the equivalent of Intel Speedstep, and that works with overclocks.

That´s correct. Its  at 3.2 always. With the default speed, 2.8, it clocks down and up according to the load.
I have the latest bios, and if i OC it , in the power management setting the processor management tab does not display the minimum processor  state and maximum.

Hi!
I'm from Brazil. Forgive for my poor English, ok?

I Have the same trouble with my new GA-MA785GMT-UD2H.
If i use in AUTO multiplier CnQ is ok.
If i put other multiplier CnQ don't function.
If i boot in stock then i increase the multiplier with Gigabyte EasyTune, CnQ functions perfectly.

I have the lastest BIOS (F3)
CPU is Phenom II X2 550BE
Mem is OCZ 2x2GB DDR3-1600 7-7-7-24   1,65V(stock voltage)
OS is Win 7 RC7100, but in XP i have the same trouble.

Tks.

Yes, Cool n Quiet does not work while overclocking CPU multiplier in Bios. That's limitation

Limitation of this model or all models of Gigabyte?
Some users of ForumPCS from Brazil (www.forumpcs.com.br) tested this in other Gigabyte model and it function correctly (boost multiplier with Cool n'Quiet active), and with others manufacturers like as ASUS and it be ok too. Why only in my Gigabyte model?

Cool and Quiet is disabled when you change the cpu multipliers under Gigabyte mb's bios.

If you want C & Q to work with changed cpu multiplier you can use our EasyTune software to adjust cpu multiplier (not through bios).

Well, my Phenom II X4 950 BE is running with a x17.5 multiplier (@3,5 Ghz) and Cool and Quiet is working with a x4 multiplier by default
It is a GA-MA770-UD3-V2.
The multiplier has been changed into EasyTune 6 and not in the bios.
Windows 7 RC has not been tuned (i.e:power mode) since the first install.

If I have some time, I will try to go higher in frequency. :)

Ps: this motherboard is very nice, but not the serial port (crazy pinout) and not the AMD raid setting (never succeeded to make it work).
