Some of my system specks 1st ...
Gigabyte X58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0) bios version F6
Corsair XMS3 Dominator TR3X6G1866C9DF 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1866 CL 9-9-9-24
Intel Core i7 Extreme 975 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 3.33GHZ
ATM I have 6GB DDR3 3X2GB Corsair XMS3 Dominator TR3X6G1866C9DF. I'll be selling this and would replace with a 3X4GB rather than adding another 3X2 (6GB) to existing RAM.
I want to upgrade to 12GB but unsure what kit to go with. I found quite a few posts on the web saying that this board is very picky with RAM but were mostly in the last year maybe earlier bios versions?
If any of you have this board with 12GB can you please share what memory you're using it with?
Here are some of the kits I'm looking at for now.
Corsair XMS3 Dominator CMP12GX3M3A1600C9 12GB DDR3 3X4GB DDR3-1600 CL 9-9-9-24 $165 http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=54051
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline Frostbyte PC3-12800 12GB 3X4GB DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.5V $115 http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=60641
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline Frostbyte PC3-12800 12GB 3X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 1.65V $74.99 http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=52621
Corsair Vengeance 12GB 3X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 XMP $89.99 http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=57080
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL from NewEgg $98.99 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231358
I've never used the Corsair Vengeance series with the X58 chipset so not sure on that?
PS: I buy most of my stuff at www.ncix.com so if you could link me to something they carry would be awesome.
Thank you.

Hi and welcome.
The way you are planning the upgrade is certainly the best. Much better to have less bigger sticks and it will help with system speed also.
As for waht to buy I would advise Corsair Dominator if possible you shouldn't have any problem with them. I use them in my X58A-UD7 with no problems. I have tried the Corsair Vengeance in that machine and it worked fine but to be honest I didn't leave them in for a long test. The other Memory that I always think of as trustworthy is Mushkin. They do same nice Redline and other modules that should be compatible.

Thanks Dark Mantis for the reply.
That's what I was thinking also but I guess I was hopping to save a few bucks by going with something cheapper.
PS: I added the links to the RAM Kits I'm looking at plus the G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB from NewEgg.

Of course you could do what I did and that is purchase a quad kit of 16GB and hopefullly when I come to upgrade to socket 2011 with a quad channel memory controller it won't be wasted. A gamble but with memory at an all time low, worth taking I think.

Haha, kinda the same thing I had in mind earlier :)
I was looking at the G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 24GB (6 x 4GB) ;D for the same price as the 12GB Dominators basically I'd get twice the RAM and I can sell half with the next computer build ;)

Just not sure what chances I'd have with G.Skill in this mobo.
What do you think?
-
Well GSkill are well respected but personally I don't have a lot of faith in them. Probably unfounded but that is my feeling. You go with what has served you well in the past. It's like OCZ, I would never buy any of their memory again. Other things yes , but not RAM.

Well I think I just Robbed Tiger Direct lol.
I just got the Dominator 12GB PC12800 Triple Channel RAM - 1600MHz, 3x4096MB for $54.99 ;D It's got to be a typo as it's $100 cheaper than anywhere else. Probably missing the 1 in the front???
Any ways my kit just arrived will test tonight.

Very lucky man! Don't shout too loudly though or they might hear and ask for the other $100! ;D
