Hi there,
Got a new PC using a GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 (rev 1.0), Intel i7 2600. The mobo originally came with F5 BIOS version.
Everything works perfectly, but I hear a strange whining thru the speakers (like a mix of processing, mouse scrolling, etc). The thing is that the speakers are plugged to a Firewire interface (which is turned OFF, by the way), not the on-board sound card. I updated to F5 BIOS version, but the problem persists. As soon as Windows boots, the noise starts, no matter if the Firewire soundcard is off or on, just powering on the speakers.
I've been reading here of similar problems on other mobos, and people suggesting to disable C3/C6 states. Is that safe? Does that negatively affect the CPU in any way? Doing so implies a higher CPU temperature? I'm not doing overclock, so just want to use the regular features and CPU speed.
The whining is hardly bearable, as I use the PC for music production, and need a quiet environment as much as possible. Never had that noise before with my old PC.
Thanks a lot for your attention, guys :)

Welcome comrade Drobbinsiki
If your not over clocking.....disabling power states (C3) will be absolutely fine.....it sounds like coil whine (your description)...Many reports of power saving states just make it worse........see if this works first......second disable all power states...(it's in the Manual)
If you're seriously into music and nothing else works you may have to go to a GROUND LOOP ISOLATOR ......very cheap and easy to install......here's a bit about it................

Let us know how you get on....

Hi and welcome.
Firstly I would check that it is actually coming from the speakers and not the system itself. Try disconnecting them and see if it is still audible.
If it is try what Allan has suggested (perfectly safe) also see if you get the same sound from the onboard sound chip.

Wow, thanks a lot for your attention and fast replies, guys! That's a warm welcome ;)
I disabled C1E and C3/C6 states on the BIOS. Now the system is much more silent, and can't hear the disturbing whine anymore.
So... is it OK to keep the system running like this now? No problems at all? Left EIST and PROCHOT settings in default "Auto".
Thanks again!
