Can't have Bulldozer stealing all the lime light .... So I thought I'd start a thread so everyone can post there gossip here about the up and coming LGA2011 and it's X79 platform ... so to hop right in , this is my little tit-bit ....
Core i7-3930K Will Be a six core Quad Channel CPU with 12Mb of L3 Cache , Unlocked and Probably a base clock of 3.3Ghz .... but Possibly 3.46Ghz ... The Estimated Price will be around $600 US ......The "X" (Extreme) version will be around the $1200US mark and will be very poor value for money with the only difference being an extra 100Mhz of base clock speed.....November the 15th to 25th expected release date
G1.ASSASSIN2 ... looks to be the Over-clockers / Gamers choice although I was a tad disappointed with only 4 memory slots
Now the GA-X79-UD3 and UD5 is another story ... with 8 memory slots this could be the board of choice for Photo and Video editors
Memory support will move up to quad-channel DDR3-1333 ( JEDEC Compliaint)....,and support up to 64Gb of memory ....YEE HAAAA!... so where the current Bloomfield can provide up to 25.6GB/s of bandwidth at the specified tri-channel DDR3-1066, LGA2011 kicks that figure up to 42.7GB/s—a 66% increase. The additional memory bandwidth should be particularly useful with certain workloads on the hex-core chips.
So lets here your Gossip ....... P.S ...I cannot verify but one source said .... release of the new CPU in the states......2 weeks!

Hello Allan,
It's also got PCIe 3.0 lanes also. There's more information here -
http://vr-zone.com/articles/gigabyte-s-socket-2011-motherboard-at-computex/12430.html
Being a AMD fan, and not changing of course, which is the best board from Gigabyte at the moment?
Cheers,
Teknology9

What................AMD or Intel ?
Aussie Allan
-
Intel.......P67?

And you're going to be using it forrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr................

Photoshop and website design Al. :) I did a bit of research and somebody suggested this one :
http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3815#ov
I'm asking just out of curiosity as I was told my a very knowledgable source it is a good platform.........just trying to learn a bit more about them.

I have a P67A-UD5 and that is a cracking little board to be fair. The only thing I find about some of the lesser level boards is the lack of ports and PCIE slots often. Just too resricting but I suppose that is across the board(no pun intended.)

Well What DM said is true .... it is a very good board (UD5) but it's also about £28 to £65 dearer depending on how good you are at E-tailing.
The GA-P67X-UD3-B3 to me represent exceptional value for money for the rough criteria you set .... you don't need Lots of PCI-E slots as an editor but two is ample if you want to dabble......The GA-P67X-UD3-B3 is in effect a reworked and re-released GA-P67-UD3-B3 ... the difference being the "X" .... this was only resonantly re- released .... with a number enhancements over the non "X" version ...side mount Sata ports, ......Firewire controller,....larger heatsink,.....but most importantly is the Marvell 88SE9172 Sata Raid controller (Two more Sata ports thanks very much)..............at a little over £100 it represents exceptional value for money if a budget is to be considered
The Good review for you target board is here ......http://computer-supports.com/sandy-bridge-p67x-series-gigabyte-ready-to-release-a-new-motherboard/
UD5 and UD7 .... Legit review.............http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1411/1/

Hello Allan,
Thanks for the advice and information, would a Core I7-2600 be a good match for this board?
Cheers,
Teknology9

Absolutely ... with a GOOD cooler!

Hello Allan
A Noctua should do the trick I think this one - http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=31&lng=en&set=1 .
Knowing this its certainly food for thought, once again thanks for the recommendation you made.

More food for thought .....look at what Intel are seriously considering shipping with the next gen 2011 chip.....http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1707/
Aussie Allan
-
That Noctua would be fine and keep the CPU cool ok. These processors are not such heat producers as their predecessors anyway and run much cooler.
-
@ Aussie Allan
That looks like the CoolIT or the Corsair Hydro series of watercooled unit cpu coolers, those CPU's are bound to pricey.
@ Dark Mantis. Yes I heard they run coller also, just interested in different platforms.

You didn't pick-up on it.......it said "Liquid cooling"... not "Water Cooling" ..... Effectively liquid metal (or Sodium blend)..... no motor as such, ... no moving part, ... the Fluid becomes the rotor in a sense .... and the highly efficient heat transfer medium . ;)
Aussie Allan
-
Yes, I meant liquid cooling, fully sealed units so no leakage I prefer air cooling but I suppose it depends how much heat the cpu generates and liquid cooling may be required. I hear it's the latest state of the art and the most contempory cooling solution the avid PC enthusiast could choose today. :)

If that's the case Allan why are there PWM cables connected to the motor ?

This thread is temporarily closed ....... while research is done to provide the answers for some very tough critics .....
Must be careful with answers .... do not want anymore liable suits for product disclosure ;D
Not Aussie Allan ... Aussie Allan's Brother :D

Thread open again ..Tee Hee!
Well the research is painful so No long answers tonight folks , but I will say this!
Think of it like this .......lets forget for a sec about Thermodynamics, solid state fluid motors, Gallium and sodium liquid compounds and concentrate on a few facts!
liquid metal can have an effective thermal conductivity 10 to 100 times the thermal conductivity of copper ....FACT!
Copper is 668 times more thermally conductive then pure water....FACT!
Water ...0.6 [W/(m·K)] ...Copper ...401 [W/(m·K)] Air ...0.025.....FACT!
Now for all those water cooling Guru's out there, tell me this , .. ...... We have a CPU with a confirmed heat-load rating of 130Watts .. :o....... One 140mm x140mm x40mm Rad and attached fan rated at about 2000RPM .... and I'm going to be really optimistic and say we have a 200ml capacity
Who thinks that the above toy list could overcome the heat load with just pure water in the loop ;)
More answers over the next couple of days.........................Aussie Allan

Intel I guess otherwise they wouldn't have a pump with power leads going to it!
-
Hello Allan,
Why not do a write up on how you put together your X79 based system when you get it, absic did a very good one , and I'm sure other forum members would be interested.
Here's some more information on that platform:

DM,DM,DM .... Those wires have really got your goat going , haven't they :D ..... even a solid-state magnetic pump (motor) requires an external power source, (usually through wires) .......... Bar having a pump to cut open I can't emphatically prove it either way.....
But I can try and explain my logic ...... up for some patent reading ....http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100066178
Or a bit more about the properties and applications ....http://www.yet2.com/app/insight/techofweek/53935?sid=200
Or some downright Just good fun and some really cool stuff you can do with liquid metals ... http://sci-toys.com/scitoys/scitoys/thermo/liquid_metal/liquid_metal.html
Look at the size of the CPU sink being installed with the unit in question ... considering you have a cold plate and outer casing and what ....12 to 15mm high ... to fit a mechanical, high Performance Hydraulic pump, Circuitry (PCB) and a barrier between the two cavities ::)
Look I've been wrong before BUT! there's a lot of Gray areas here that points to ....at the very least a fluid that is not pure H2O and the real possibility that solid state (No moving parts) are being utilized with a metallized fluid.
Aussie Allan P.S If anyone wants some reading on the subject .... I've got stacks ;)

I accept that you could be correct and there is nothing magical about the process you are describing I know. Maybe you are right and that is what is hiding inside there but I wil be surprised. Time will tell.... and a chainsaw!!!
It sounds a little cheap for the technology if you are correct. I would have expected it to be more expensive especially if Intel is involved as they aren't known for their rolling out of reasonably priced goods.
-
At a 130W Effectively they have a very big problem to be addressed with Air alone and or even heatPipe/Air .... what they needed was a solution that broaches into what I call the "idiot factor" were even an Australian or Frenchman (no offense Pierre) can't get it wrong!
After the fiasco of the G5 thermal problems even with off the shelf water kits , it seems Intel learn't from Apples mistakes.
Love them or hate them .... with cold blooded efficiency , Intel have turned it around , fobbed off the business to third party manufactures, introduced Fluid cooling to the masses and come out the other side with a winning solution to the problem and no liability on the cooling side ..... you gotta take your hat off to them!
P.S ....DM! .... if that was an offer.....I have a chain-saw if you supply the cooler :o
