Title: GA-970A-UD3 + 1866 Mhz RAM & Phenom II 955
Post by: pancho on September 19, 2011, 04:34:21 pm
Hi everybody

I´ve got a little doubt about this configuration: Can I install 1866 Mhz RAMs with a Phenom II 955 or may I have to wait for the new Bulldozers? That´s because of the mother board´s specification, in wich I can read:

# Support for DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules (Note 2)
(Note 2) To support a DDR3 1866 MHz (and above) memory, you must install an AMD AM3+ CPU first.

Hi there,

It is not advisable to run your RAM at it's rated speed until you get an AM3+ processor. You might like ot read through this thread: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2515.0.html which should explain why this is so.

You could go ahead and buy the ram then run it at 1333 for now till you upgrade to the am3+ chip.
