Title: P55-USB3 Motherboard shows Hitachi 7K2000 drive is only 1TB not 2TB
Post by: deranjer on September 24, 2011, 01:47:45 pm
SPECS:

Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. P55-USB3 (Socket 1156)
BIOS: F8, just upgraded to F10g
HDD: Hitachi 2TB 7K2000 (HDS722020ALA330

Hello,

I was hoping someone could help me with this issue that I have not been able to resolve.  My Hitachi 2TB drive 7K2000 (HDS722020ALA330) is only showing up as 1TB in the BIOS and Windows 7x64.  My BIOS was F8, so I upgraded it to F10g, and that hasn't helped.  I downloaded Hitachi's drive fitness tool and ran that on the drive and it only detected it as 1TB as well.

I downloaded all of the new drivers off of Gibabyte's site, but that did not make a difference either, I changed the drive to AHCI in the BIOS, that didn't help either.  I decided that I could just use the drive as a 1TB drive, but apparently Windows doesn't like the drive as every time I reboot it has to run chkdsk on it, most likely because it is reading the size wrong.

Is there anything else I can do to get this drive working???

Thanks!

Thank you for your quick reply.  I did update the firmware on the drive to the latest version, however, it still only detects the drive as a 1TB drive.
I don't know this is a HDD problem, as when I boot into Spinrite it detects that the BIOS is incorrectly sizing the drive.  I did contact Hitachi, but I fear that when they respond they will say it is a motherboard compatibility issue/motherboard does not support drive. :(
