Title: Gigabyte 6990
Post by: Help05 on October 11, 2011, 02:52:08 am
I have been trying to play the battlefield 3 beta but the game keeps crashing.

Im lucky if i get to play for more then 2 min.

Also on event viewer it shows that the driver keeps crashing.

So anyway the cards i am using is

2 Gigabyte 6990 in crossfire

Driver used (11.9 and 11.10)

This setup works on crossfire mode in medal of honor.

It might be just the driver and have to wait for a new one but has anyone else been able to use 2 gigabyte 6990 in battlefield 3 beta in crossfire or just one card without the game crashing.

Also has anyone been able to use (Gigabyte Global Technical Service) i get this error when i try and logon

Server Error in '/' Application.
The underlying connection was closed: The remote name could not be resolved
An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request.

Hi and welcome.

Nice setup, shame it doesn't work properly at the moment though! It could be down to the beta version of the game of course.

What power supply are you using to power this lot ?

Have you got all the power cxables connected properly ?

Have you got both bridge cables connected ?

Hi thanks very much for your reply. All cables and bridge definitely connected correctly. Here is the link to the power supply I'm using. It's a Thermaltake 1500w which I thought should be sufficient. http://www.thermaltake.com.au/products-model.aspx?id=C_00001000
I had considered that it could be to do with the fact that BF3 is in beta but I was just curious if anyone else had had any problems. I was just a bit concerned when it didn't work considering how much I have paid for the setup and the fact that the main reason i built this computer was to play BF3.
Thanks again
Daniel

Well Daniel, I would say that unless it has any faults your PSU should be plenty for what you are running. Just make sure that the two graphics cards are fed from two seperate 12v rails as I notice that your PSU is split into four 12v supply rails.

Have you tried checking the BF3 forum and other associated sites ?

Hi again,
thanks for that advice I have fed the graphics cards from 2 separate 12v rails. I have also posted on the BF3 forum and had some replies from others with similar problems so I am thinking it could be the BF3 beta. ATI released a driver for the BF3 Beta it was 11.10 and was meant to fix a lot of the problems to make the game playable. Do you think that the problem might be with the 6990 being a rare card compared to models under it that the driver might not have been optimized well enough for this card? Just a thought anyway.
Thanks
Daniel.

AMD/Ati currently has a lot of problems with drivers regarding new games so it is high probability that the problem is just that! BF3 is in beta state so don't expect it to run smoothly (in many cases be happy if it runs at all).
Another game "Rage" doesn't work at all on AMD/Ati cards so be tuned on BF3 forum because that should be the first place to get newest information regerding graphic card compatibility.

Yes, I think it is probably the game more than the card to be honest and it won't help as you say because the card is more unusual and so doesn't receive the same atention that say a 6970 or 6950 would.
