Title: GA-X58-USB3 NOT Detecting any peripherals on the PCI slot
Post by: msuvro81 on October 13, 2011, 12:34:41 pm
My GA-X58-USB3 board is not able to detect any perpherals attached ot it on the PCI slot, like a LAN/Ethernet Card. Bios version is F3.Have tried installing windows & afresh but it has not helped. The odd thing is that when I installed the LAN card and attached the LAN cable, the ethernet lights on the card lit up but the OS is not able to detect it!!! Not usre what's wrong.

Any suggestions on how to solve this????

With PCI-E ... quite common that the drivers (Software) need to be loaded before even the BIOS will recognise that anything is even attached (Hardware)

  Example:..... RevoDrives.......Rocket Raid cards..........ext.....ext

Well it is NOT the PCI-E slot but the single PCI expansion slot where you can put in a LAN card, is waht I am referring to.

fair enough....but still have you tried to load the drivers regardless to see if the system will then play ball ?

Yes I did but the OS is not taking the drivers as it is not even able to detect LAn card on PCI slot.

Is there any way from the BIOS where I can check if there is anything attached to the PCI slot.

Another odd thing is that Windows 7 32 bit is detecting 3.5GB(usuable RAM)  but I have a ATI 5870 1GB card.

As far as i know that a 32 bit OS can address upto 4 GB RAM including the GPU.

If 3.5 GB is being used by the OS then logically only 0.5GB is being used from the GPU so my GPU is not being fully utilized. I was also thinking if there is any address conflict or not but if the OS is unable to detect the LAn card on the PCi slot then I am unable to check if there is address conflict or not.

My PC config is as follows:-

i7 920@2.66Ghz
Corsair H70 liquid cooling
6 GB corsair RAM @ 1066MHz
550W SMPS from iBall
1.1 TB Seagate.(1TB SATA,160GB SATA,80 GB ATA)
ATI 5870 1GB RAM.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Thanks

A 32 bit Windows OS install can and will only utilize between 3.3 to 3.6 Gb of memory depending on Hardware and configuration

I'm not familiar with your bios and board but there will be LAN configurable options to set.....get the manual out and have a read ....you should find something ... sounds like you may have missed something .... also check the PCI cards website for recommended install procedure and or the Forum for a list of possible causes with "Failed to install"

I have checked the manual and also disabled the "ON BOARD LAN" from the motherboard's BIOS but it still does not help.Whatever I attach to the PCI slot is neither detected nor recognised by any OS including Windows Xp Sp3 32 bit and Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit.

Any other tips or suggestions.

Yes one! ...... if you reset the Bios to "optimized Default" save and reboot.......this sets the board up to go hunting for absolutely everything connected to the board......on rebooting it will also mean that you will have to go into all fields and configure for your particular setup...... after saving and booting back to windows..........if it still is not present.........all I can say is either the LAN card is not compatible, possibly defective out of the box (potential RMA) or there is a problem with that particular slot .....do you have anything at all you could put into that slot to test the integrity of the PCI slot?

Careful!    Not Default....."Optimized Default".....there's a big difference with what you're trying to find out and what the board will do between the two settings

Also to help us understand your system a complete run down of everything that you have connected to the motherboard would be helpful. Unless it is a bad board or slot it must be a BIOS setting that is causing the problem.

I went to the BIOS and loaded the "optimised default settings" ,restarted my system but it still did not help.

Any suggestions.
