Title: Of these 5 PSU units, which would you recommend for me to use and why?
Post by: soarwitheagles on October 31, 2011, 05:17:01 am
Hi again!

Ok, I am presently using an XFX 650 and an XFX 850 in each of my rigs and they are working just fine.

I have a new OCZ 850 Watt gold, and a new OCZ 1000 Watt gold, and a new Cougar SX 700.

Of these 5 PSU units, which would you recommend for me to use and why?

Thanks,

Soar

Hi Soar, nice to see you again,

Apart from the Cougar which I am not familiar with the rest all seem to be decent units. Personally I like to have a large PSU and so would probably go for the OCZ 1000W. It is also Gold rated which is in it's favour as it is more efficient. I am sure that any of these units would meet your present needs but it is always good to know that you have spare capacity that you can call on in the event of an upgrade etc.

Thanks DM,

Ok, one more Q:

Would the OCZ 1000w use more energy or do PSU's only use the amount of power the computer needs?

A bigger PSU will draw slightly more energy but it would be negligable. The amount of power your PSU actually uses especially in it's quiescent state is very little. Even when running I think you would be surprised how little it actually uses. Pennies per day!
