I'm considering a Z68XP-UD4 and was initially disapointed over the lack of DVI video port for my monitor until I realized I could use a Hdmi-to-DVI adaptor. Will this work as well as if I'd plugged into native DVI? No glitches or lack of either BIOS or OS output? I wont be using discrete graphics, only on-board.

Hi
The only thing that may well happen is that when you first connect your monitor up you will find that there is a black band around the edge of the screen. It only requires adjustment if that is the case as the port thinks that you are plugging in a widescreen TV and it configures itself for that.
I can't think of any othe rproblems you are likely to have.

Great! Can't wait to get my hands on this board :D
-
Well good luck and keep us informed of your progress. ;)

Sure

The HDMI output worked perfectly with my monitors DVI input.
I'm experiencing one issue however, shutdown via OS or powerbutton doesnt work, it seems to get stuck in sone kind of in-between state. In other words I'm forced to use the PSU power switch whenever I want to shut down. Only tried F5 bios so far, will try F6E next.
-
That's annoying. Try disabling your power saving modes and anything else that you don't use for a start just to try and pin down where the problem is coming from.
-
Tried bios F6E with no improvement to my issue. All settings I changed were memory XMP profile enable, PCH SATA mode to ACHI and HPET to 64-bit. I'll try to change the power saving settings like you said.

Hi RoadToNever,
I am not sure, but if you want try it:
Just choose a SPD profile about your RAM. Instead of choosing XPM profile. Check with CPU-Z. In tab SPD.

Using SPD instead of XMP didnt change matters.
Is this a known issue?

Hi again, ;)
Soft-Off by PWR-BTTN
Configures the way to turn off the computer in MS-DOS mode using the power button.
Instant-Off Press the power button and then the system will be turned off instantly. (Default)
Delay 4 Sec. Press and hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn off the system.
If the power button is pressed for less than 4 seconds, the system will enter suspend mode.
Choose Delay 4 sec. (Try it)
Verify if you press 5 sec (Mile-One, Mile-Two,Mile-Tree-Mile-For-Mile-Five), your problem is repeat (reloop)...

Sadly this didn't solve my problem.
Just to be clear what happends when i activate shutdown by OS or case power button is the video output is turn off, HDD are spinned down but the fans are still spinning, very much like sleep mode.
Other things I've tried by now, changing 'ACPI suspend type' to from S3(STR) to S1(POS). Tried bios versions F2 to F6E.
-
As I mentioned before try disabling all the power saving modes in BIOS and Windows.
EIST,C1, C3 , S1 ,etc
-
Tried disabling those settings again with F6E. Same results. Than tried toggling all seemingly unrelated settings in bios, still no solution.
No big deal, I can flick the switch on my power strip instead.

I know that you can do a hard shut down by disconnecting the power but that isn't good to do for a long period as none of the drives will be parked and there will stil be data that hasn't been written back to the drives unless you shut down properly.
-
The HDDs are spinned down after I engage shutdown so I thinks it's safe. I'm currently troubleshooting my PCI audio interface. Still working to determine whether it's a software of hardware issue. Any known incompatibilities?
Merry christmas Dark and Gloup! :D

As far as I am aware there are no particular audio incompatibilites but sound cards do seem to often cause problems one way or another. I can only suggest removing the audio card and seeing if the problem disappears.
I have just noticed your Green hard drives though. Are you booting from one of them ? If so that could wel be your problem as they are no good as boot drives. They try and power down all the time which leaves the machine in a constant state of being not in touch with it's boot drive. As you can imagine this is a difficult situation for the system. Try using a small Black drive to boot from instead and just use the Greens as data drives.
Happy Christmas to you too. ;)

Hi RoadToNever, ;)
Thank you very much for your wishes.
I wish you much pleasure at the end of 2011.

Soundcard works fine on a s755 system, doesn't on a fresh install. Must be related to this, from an Intel desktop board specificaton update document:
PCI cards utilizing a PCI Express to PCI bridge chip will not be recognized or
function when plugged into any PCI slot on the affected Intel Desktop
boards.
I guess you can't get everything in life. Will look for a PCIe or USB soundcard.
Despite the problems I'm holding on to this board. Rather not have to deal with stuff like pointless Bios settings for the sake of marketability like some competitors offer. ::)
Happy new year, guys! ;)

Happy Christmas!
Where did the posted quote come from ? It sounds interesting but is not something I have come across before.
