I've just installed a gigabyte 580 SOC in my case, at idle the noise of the fan is okay but when playing witcher 2 it makes a whining noise as though something is touching the fan blades, I've checked for anything touching and cant see anything, also upped the fan speed while on desktop in OC Guru and it makes the same sound.
Also when the fan speed is running at 40% and i touch the back of my tower case lightly the graphics card fans make the same whining noise. I cant figure out whats causing it, any ideas?

Hi
It sounds like the fan is a bit out of alignment or the bearings on it are worn if it is an older one. I expect it is the former and what is happening is that as the fan speed increases the fan lifts a little in the mount and just touches the surround. If it is new take it back to the retailer.

thanks for the advice but I think i got it sorted now, I just reseated the graphics card and pulled the shielding out at the back alittle and it seems to have done the trick but now I have a new problem. I am getting lag while typing, tried it in notepad and ms word and it still happens.
Any suggestions?

It would be a help if you would post a list of your components to stop me having to guess what you are running. ;)

I7 920 CPU
6gb 1600mz
Intel m2 SSD
Seasonic X750w Gold PSU
Velociraptor 120hb Hardrive
Asus P6TD Deluxe 2 Mboard
Alienware AW23 120hz monitor
Pioneer dvd writer
Windows 7 64bit Home edition
Is there also a way to turn the fans down on the gcard at idle to 30%? minimum i can turn it down is 40% at the moment.
Also my temp are 37c idle and max I've seen playing games so far is 78c ... is this okay?

Your temperatures are absolutely fine. In fact if they don't get any hotter than that then you are lucky.
I can't see any obvious reason why you should be getting this problem.
Check in Task Manager to see what programs and services you have running. Have you done an antivirus check with a decent AV rogram ?

It was OC Guru that was causing the problem, it's okay now :-[
Everything seems to be running fine, noise isnt too bad (better than i expected) but I might flash the bios so i can take the fans down to 30% at idle and set up a fan profile in afterburner, just need to read up on it to find out whats involved. I havent played too many games yet but running 3D mark 2011 and mafia 2 i get around 78-79C max so far.
Do i need to have OC Guru running all the time minimized for overclocking profile and the power phasing feature to work or can i close it?
