Right folks ….. it’s about time I cut you in on the up and coming project planned for a MONSTER of a build for 2012…..based on, funnily enough………. the LGA2011 and ..... The up and coming X79 Boards…..What board I hear you ask……….Don’t know yet……no one does!…..just hope it's a killer……what Intel beast?……same answer….
All I can say at this point is after spending what I’ve spent so far..... :'( :'( :'(…..it’s definitely happening and the build box is growing
What I can tell you so far
I have 5x12v power supplies 26A
Will be running a total of 4 separate loops of pure silicon extruded tubing
Running a highly modified Ethylene Glycol Nano Fluid
Will have 1200W of solid state cooling
Be in a Humidity controlled case so we can all see it with no insulation on anything
The case alone will be down to -15C
And if all goes well…the CPU down to -30C
I’ll keep you posted as the pre-build gathers momentum and the design sets ……. there‘ll be a juicy review towards the end in two parts …..the build First….....then later running at what I can get out of it……Who know, 6.5Ghz is the target!…..
Some of the technology will be out there and it’ll be worth following…..including direct die injection :o………
There’s some new things happening in the industry that I’ve been lucky enough to see it coming, approached the manufactures ….. And got my hands on some pretty amazing materials and compounds…… how does a 20% increase in coolant performance sound! 8)

EDIT by Mod.
Any and all donations of components would be welcomed and gratefully received and obviously would be aknowledged in the threads/publications!

UPDATE!
Another Two sponsors have come good this week..... with UPS dropping off 5KGs of a new Desiccant compound not in the UK as yet....
"DU-CAL" by "DRIERITE" ..... is a new blend of Calcium Sulfate and Calcium Chloride that has the stunning ability to reduce a sealed humidity enclosure down to, and hold > 0.1% RH (relative humidly) .....in fact it dries gases to a dryness of 0.005 mg/l or 2 PPM
This has been the Achilles heel for me for years and why the project was shelved several years ago......Now with a new dew point of -73C .... no insulation is required within the enclosure.
The second and no less important was 20M x 16mm heavy wall pure Silicon extruded tubing from OZ.......another amazing product that you can hold in your hand running fluid from -70C to 265C ..... try that with Polly-propylene

They both sound like they will help a lot in the chasing down of the illusive target that you are going for. That tubing sounds really like a major step forward in safety apart from anything else.
-
It all sounds very impressive Allan. look forward to learning more about the case & cooling. Stumbling block now is the MOBO
& how long before Intel come out with the full CPU package.
Think for the time being will stuff mine in Fridge, both cool & quiet. ;D ::)
Regards tinker.

UPDATE
Another nice sponsor dropped off some wares today.......Humidity enclosure is now under way......one of my all time favourite materials is Polycarbonate.......first used it in OZ making production safety enclosures for Union-Carbide ...... yes the same company that killed more Indians then Custer
10mm solid sheet will stop a 9mm round at point blank.....and commonly known as "High Impact Plastic"....... you can hot or cold bend it like aluminium, hit it with a hammer, drill it, saw it, machine it....you can even heat it in oil and press it into dies......... multi-cell poly-card is 350% lighter then treble glazed Argon filled glass panels with twice the thermal performance .... why wouldn't you consider it for thermal enclosures.
Included a few pickies so you know what's coming...
Aussie Allan

I would have to go along with you there. It is a wonderful medium to work with although it does have it's drawbacks like if you cut or drill it you have to use a very slow speed and coolant.
-
Razor sharp drill bits, .... very low speeds........ sharp wood working bits work a treat too.....even spade bits...... my favourite is a 308 bolt action with a good scope ;)

So Allan, NASA have a subsidiary in Milton Keynes and your the project manager!!!!! :)
Seriously.....it's looking very interesting though.

DAM! .... There goes the Media Blackout....
This could seriously jeopardise the "G-GROM" project (Gigabyte Gaming Rig On Mars)
Sorry!......your IP Address will now be under surveillance.... ;)

Hi ya chap....keep us all up to date.....Houston we have lift off!!!!! :)
-
It'll be a progressive liftoff......a couple more minor sponsors came on this week......as material and product comes in and is being built.....I'll put out tastier bits occasionally.

No decision made on the MB to be used? Perhaps the Gigabyte X79 gaming board...or something of that description. I dont know if you've come across this...prices.

New technology + no real competition = Very high prices! Way to go Intel!!! :D
-
Yes! ... The £ and $ figures are a little depressing as is what Ive spent to date , help and support will be important....No critical! ....but all I can do is keep knocking on doors and plug on with the build regardless .... planning can only work so far .... sometimes you just have to take it one day at a time.
The present financial climate.....is definitely not helping !

There's a thought Absic and Technology9.....Know anyone at Intel ?
Aussie Allan
-
Ah.... wouldn't you like to know the answer to that?
-
Do you want those pictures of your wife back... ;D
Aussie Allan
-
Not really! I see her everyday thanks, so you can keep them.

Hahahahahahahahahahaahahahhahahah..... fair enough.......don't really want to take down the wall paper anyway!

Allan....I think you have found your own solution....pop down to your local comedy bar you'll raise the finance in no time!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

No, but I somebody at Noctua........not!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Very difficult company to get to people to talk to.

So, do I have to listen out for Sonic BOOM Allan when you fire up. ::) ;D
Regards tinker.

I reckon he's making one of these......I mean...he's gathering enough materials!!!! :)

I did look at this Design Technology9 but one it's French......two it only travels at the speed of light and three........I don't have 27km of tubing for the loop
Tinker......it may not have a Sonic boom.......But you will hear about it ;)
And finally...... looks like Tweaktown our US brothers would like to have a look at it once finished :)

Good for you Allan....I hope you get the recognition you deserve once you have finished the project, again this is going to be very beneficial for all of your existing and new sponsors as Tweaktown is a very popular site not just across the pond.
It's French...."plume de ma tante" as they say Peckham!!!!

Technology9
Well you finally lost me there Brother......I got the Musical bit......but "Peckham"........if you said "Regan.....I'd think Exorcist ? ? ? ? ? ::) ::)
Just to get back on subject..... A lot of people don't seem to realize that this project will have legs.......once built......I can swap in a Different board in about 20mins .... and any kit attached be it PSU,Memory,..... Drives ..........but the real Gem is no Mods what so ever to the boards will be needed ......Just the CPU ,GPU water Blocks

It certainly seems to have well thought out plans behind it and quite practical as well which so often isn't the case. ;)

Hopefully I won't need C4 to pry you out of your Bunker to have a look at it when done....!

LONG OVER DUE UPDATE!
Well it's happened again....My Den....scratch that!......HOUSE ..... is starting to look like a Science lab! .... the new press got used for 4 days before getting a bottle-upgrade to 50 Ton ... the 30 Ton just wasn't cutting it ..... The new thermal material is frustratingly close.....you solve one problem, and another pops up .... bit like a whacking board , I do like working with Diamond powders though ...... it's one material Ive never worked with before in 30 odd years of engineering.
With the advancements in manufacture ... it's finally in the realm of a poor R&D developers reach 8) .... Just one method that is seeing backyard operations popping up all over China is detonation synthesis, In this process, nanometer-sized diamond grains are created in a detonation of carbon-containing explosives in a heavy walled chamber..... to give you an idea why diamond is so cool........thermal conductivity is generally measured in Wm/k....Copper (Cu) is pretty good at about 406.........Silver (Ag) is excellent at 426 Wm/k ........Synthetic Diamond, depending on purity is 2000 to 3500 Wm/k ........with virtually no thermal expansion......well worth pursuing.
The quad Peltier water blocks are finished and in the parts box, the humidity enclosure is taking shape, but is work in progress, as is the home brew thermal (Ultra low temp) compound .... a fellow forum member is having a little look at the MK1 formulation ....will be interesting on what he thinks!
I haven't been on the forum very much with so much to do .... but I do try and check in from time to time, it's good that it's been rather quiet lately.
I'll keep you informed as to any major developments.

Nice one Allan and glad to hear that everything is going along well. What does you wife use the 50 ton press for in her kitchen....mashing the spuds! As you say Diamond is the ultimate TIM and they have been trying to formulate synthetic versions for quite a while. Keep us all informed please. ;)

Well this is a very long over due update
So very much has happened over the run up to Christmas and new year it's hard to know where to start .... local suppliers continue to be my Achilles heel for raw materials and product .... unrealistic pricing and email responses in the weeks , not days! .... it's like being on another planet trying to set up a business.
Shopping out of China carries it's risks, not to mention the import duties added on to the base price and shipping .... but why is it I can land a given material from half way around the the world by air, for 10% of the local price .... unless the government do something in educating local business and banks that we now live in a truly global market .... the economy will continue to fail .... I make regular overseas payment transaction on a weekly bases......take the humble PayPal for instance, ......... even transferring cash is a cost effective, no brainer, hassle free path.
But my bank requires for each transaction .....my passport, the card account in question , drivers licence, two other forms of ID and £25 to send funds to Australia or China ::) ... Are they mad!
Anyway, enough about politics .........The humidity enclosure is finished except for the double glazed lid .... 6x TEC Blocks are installed with there power supplies .... I decided to go with individual PSUs here ..... this way if a singe PSU or Peltier block fails on the cooling ......I don't cook the whole shabang...... Got a right handy new cooling fluid ready to go ..... almost ..... coming to the end of it's product trial .... got two formulations, one for passive cooling loops and one for active cooling ...... remains quite pumpable down -40C with more than double the thermal efficiency of Ethylene Glycol/water mixes.....Decided long ago that the cooling blocks for this outfit would need something special regards design and material over present, commercially available units.
I'm excited to say the waterblocks are almost completed, both the design and a new material that seem to be out performing Cu (Copper) .... also a new type of vein surface for the coolant to flow over .... we've managed to squeeze in a surface area equal to a plate measuring 126mmx126mm into the water block barely 40x40mm internal.
Still having trouble with the RAD model that will be used ... unhinges people when you tell them you need 6 x 360s and would they like to become a sponsor ..... Funny thing is ..... not one of the many sponsors I have so far , have really anything to do with the computer Industry.
I really though people would step up to the plate and support such a PC project ..... all I can find is people telling me their prices and buy now before the prices go up! ..... Yeah!... right!
Till next time ........Aussie Allan
