Title: 890FXA-UD7 - can't disable power saving
Post by: sirbaili on November 11, 2011, 01:58:58 pm
Hi there.
 I have a 890fxa-ud7 2.0 revision motherboard and X6 1090T Cpu.
I have disabled all possible power saving technologies:
Cool 'N' Quiet --- C1e -- Hardware Monitoring Module - In Windows I am at "High Performance" Power Profile.
Yet the Cpu VCore keeps jumping back and fro together with CPU Multiplier.
I am running Latest F5F Bios.

I had the same processor in my previous motherboard 790x-UD4 and have not experienced this Phenomena.

  Any Help will be appreciated.

  thanks

it sounds like your seeing the issue noted here http://www.kitguru.net/components/cpu/zardon/amd-fx-8150-black-edition-8-core-review-with-gigabyte-990fxa-ud7/24/ (http://www.kitguru.net/components/cpu/zardon/amd-fx-8150-black-edition-8-core-review-with-gigabyte-990fxa-ud7/24/) I found it while reading this thread http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687689 (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687689)

A forum member posted the fix in another thread too but I can't seem to find it.

Hi All.

First of all I want to thank DarkFoss for his prompt reply - But above method did not work for me and it is for 990FX-ud5 Motherboard.

and back to the topic:

The culprit (is) was a beta F5F bios - after reverting to F4 Bios everything worked as advertised - another bug with F5F bios is that you have freezes while in MIT menu.

So I Advise to stay away from it until stable version is released.

Hi Friends,  :D

it is always better to use the BIOS version that is not beta.

Hi All,

runn3R has already stated the following about beta BIOS:

"Warning - GIGABYTE provides some of beta BIOSes for testing purposes mainly. It's due to they are still under internal testing. If you are not familiar with beta BIOS usage then please only use BIOSes that are posted on our official website, as only these BIOSes have passed compatibility tests."

I should just point out that some of the "latest" BIOS versions posted on the Gigabyte download page for some motherboards are labelled as BETA and then stay that way as no further updates are issued. These are usually safe to use and may have to be used, if you want to run the latest processor(s) for example.

As with all things it should also be noted that in the general scheme of things you shouldn't just update your BIOS because there is a new version. The old saying of: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" is really important to remember when it comes to BIOS and if your system is running fine then you really don't need to update the BIOS in the majority of cases.
