Title: X58A-UD3R rev2.0 - How to update BIOS without getting this error?
Post by: XLR on November 16, 2011, 10:42:13 am

I'm getting "file size" errors with both Q-Flash and @Bios, on every BIOS version after FF that weights more than 1MB.

The thing is, that i have a new i7-980 that (according to CPU Support List (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449#sp)) requires a BIOS version of FH1 or higher. What can i do?

Thanks in advance.

You will normally need to download the latest version of @BIOS or FLASHSPI before running them to process the latest update version.

I know that we don't usually advise the use of @BIOS but this is one of those occasions when it must be used because of the different file size. Or you can use FLASHSPI as I mentioned earlier if you are worried about the outcome.

Hi there,

Are you using the latest version of @BIOS? If not download it from here: http://uk.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/121/tech_a_bios.htm and use this to update to the latest version. If you are still having a problem then try using the FLASH.SPI method as changing from one BIOS file size to a larger one cannot be done using QFlash.

First of all, thanks for the quick reply guys. :)

The only thing i didn't tried yet is FLASH.SPI, but seems like it doesn't works on Windows 64bit...
Is there any workaround to make it run in 64bit, or my only option is to install Windows 32bit on a separate hard drive in order to use it?

Hi again

flash.spi does not run through the Windows environment so it is similar to QFlash. You need to run the FLASH.SPI programme from a USB pendrive or similar. You can find more information on this over at TweakTown here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/27576-bios-flashing-how-qflash-guide.html

Yes, it worked! Updated to FH3 via USB stick.

Thanks for your help! :)
