Title: Intel to add TRIM support for RAID0 Array
Post by: absic on November 21, 2011, 08:41:36 am
It seems as if those clever chaps over at Intel are going to be doing all those who use SSD's in a RAID0 Array a big favour.

I stumbled across this item http://www.anandtech.com/show/5136/intel-to-add-trim-support-for-raid-0 regarding TRIM that might prove interesting to those of you on the Darkside of the computing world.

Hi absic and thanks for the info. It doesn't come as a surprise but I hadn't actually realised that Intel were near to releasing it.

To be honest it came as a bit of a surprise when I read it. I wonder how long it will be before AMD are able to do this for their chipsets. It will make things a lot easier for those of us running SSD's in a RAID0 Array as hopefully we won't have to break the array on a regular basis to keep things running smoothly.

Well OCZ have been supporting it on their preconfigured PCIE  Revo drive SSDs since the last release.

True, but sadly, not everyone can afford these drives!  :'(

Sorry for the absence chappies .....late note is on the way .... been a really interesting 4 or 5 days ;)

Excellent news Absic ...... even though garbage collection works and works well....it still has been a band-aid fix for the intrim.

Being a RST based release .... will be fantastic if it's fully backward compatible, ...Intel had a working working model as far as 6 months back but was kept very quiet as the offshoot was a marked performance hit in through put, unlike OCZ......I heard a whisper a few weeks back that there was a development but your snip is the first hard paper I've seen, way to go Absic .... will be interesting if the TRIM has any penalties attached re performance.

Yes quite agree. It is only the most up to date drives that support it anyway. Even the ones like I have don't at the present, whether it could be ammended as a retro fix would be interesting.

A very sad day indeed........Ricky Ponting and Donald Bradman......I don't know which one will be remembered more!

AMD will be successful....just maybe not in the desk top arena..........Enter the 16-core Opteron 6200 processor.....Lowest ever TDP per core at 35W

become the new CEO for AMD and now your in charge of the Bulldozer project.....
