Title: incorrect file size
Post by: alank on November 21, 2011, 06:38:38 pm
hi im trying to install windows xp on my computer which has a gigabyte ga-8i915 pm motherboard , the initial setup is ok and when its reboots to go into the second part i get an error "no operating system " when i researched it on the internet the main reason i found wa s that the bios had to be updated , i can only asume that the board is older and the bios has to be updated , when i went on to the gigabyte website to get the update the exact motherboard as i stated earlier (i have checked it again and its exactly as stated on the board) i downloaded what i thought it was put it on a floppy went to qflash and i get " incorrect file size " , the bios on the board is 512k and anything i can see is a fair bit smaller and the error occurs

Hi

Often this is purely because you have set the machine to boot from the optical drive and then when it reboots it tries to boot from the optical drive again instead of the hard drive which it is expecting to find with a operating system in it. The easiest way around this is to leave the hard drive as the primary boot device and  just press F12 to boot from CD when you want to install Windows. ;)

thanks very much for your response dark mantis. im not a total beginner in installing windows and have done many ove rthe years , but have never had to hit the f12 " select boot device " when installing windows XP , normally after the intial install of drivers then format it reboots directly into the windows setup , but i will try your advice and hope it helps thanks again

Hi alank,  ;)

Thanks for a response. Have you a information if your desktop computer is a IMEDIA H5197 ?
I find it :
ftp://ftp.download.packardbell.com/DESKTOP/
But I do not explore all finder.

Where you find a bios ? Have you a official website about your brand-model?

Otherwise , I find this page web:
http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/Boards/Motherboards/Gigabyte/GA-8I915PM/Man_GA-8I915PM_uk.pdf
The manual ... I am not sure if is your exact motherboard.

I find too :
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1800#bios
Make attention : maybe is not for your motherboard, check on the mobo, exact model or on your original manual.

On address bar, with google, when I tape with keyboard: ga-81915 site:es.gigabyte.com
http://www.google.com/search?hl=&as_sitesearch=es.gigabyte.com&q=ga-81915&top_search_btn=B%C3%BAsqueda#q=ga-81915+site:es.gigabyte.com&hl=fr&prmd=imvns&ei=aRrQTqX5CuPi0QH79I0g&start=0&sa=N&filter=0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=c82b6b8a220e0f17&biw=1603&bih=820
