Title: AMD FX platform + Steam games = BSOD
Post by: yourma2000 on November 22, 2011, 03:44:15 am
Games include:

Portal 2
Total War: Shogun 2
Deus Ex
Saints Row the Third

And a few others, the bug is caused by the microcode in the BIOS which means it's easily solvable with a BIOS update, AMD said they would have a solution within a month but that time has ran out and there's still no fix, when can we expect to see an update for AM3+ boards? Other motherboard makers seem to have BIOS updates available as of days ago.

yourma2000, have you seen this forum post (http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-beta-bios-529.html)?  Look for 1.1.0.2.  There was no answer here but perhaps this will lead to a method to modify your BIOS to AGESA 1.1.0.2.  Please let us know if you learn how to do this.  Enjoy, John.

Thanks for the link, althought the guy who uploaded the BETA BIOS put it on a free cloud service and the badwidth seems to have been used up  :-\

Got the F6c BIOS drivers for the GA-990FXA-UD3 rev1.0 there are good and bad news
Good News are: All games that BSOD or run slow and laggy now play perfectly and smoothly without any problem.

Bad News are: 1) Apparently they locked up the cpu cores and now the are limited to 4 cores i have checked the BIOS and the 7-8 core is "enabled"         so unless someone knows something more than that i guess we will have to wait for the final release.
2)Also this update has made the cpu more prawn to heating and the fan is going up 5000rpm while in Saints row the third (which makes a lot of noise).

Fortunately other games dont cause such high rpm but still a at least 1000rpm and 5C more than the previous BIOS.And of course unless you are a designer or for some reason need to use all 8 cores then you are pretty set as no game can use more than 4 cores anyway.

The new F6e (typo on website) posted on 11/25 has the cores unlocked again...Once installed it reports as F6g.
