Hi i have a Gigabyte ga-p55-ud7 ,i7 860 ,8 gigabyte 1333 samsung ram,sli 480 gtx,ecc. s.o. win 7 64 bit home
I have just buyed a ssd OCZ Vertex 3.
120GB Max Performance*
Max Read: up to 550MB/s
Max Write: up to 500MB/s
Random Read 4KB: 35,000 IOPS
Random Write 4KB: 75,000 IOPS
Maximum 4K Random Write: 85,000 IOPS
Now the problem is that i just read on internet that this motherboard has problem with the marvell sata3 6GB and can not work at this standard (Max Read: up to 550MB/s Max Write: up to 500MB/s) so i'm not so happy about this problem.
Do you have a solution to configure this OCZ Vertez 3 with this motherboard (that i like a lot) to make it work up to 550MB/s or i have to change motherboard?
which model of motherboard do i have to buy for this SSD??
Thanks a lot and forgive my english .....good work.

Hi Fabio and welcome.
The Marvell 9128 controller was a dead loss I am afraid and the whole industry was caught out with this particular chip. It will work alright as a SATA2 controller but just won't manage anything too fast or with a heavy throughpout like a RAID array or a SSD. The Intel ICH10R controller chip is the fastest on the board and your best bet although you are not going to get the max perfomance of your new drive.
If you decide to change boards then I would suggest one of the Z68 chipset range. Their SATA3 ports work fine as far as I know.

My advice would be to update your BIOS using QFlash, the BIOS utility, to the latest full version which helps with the SSD compatibility like you mentioned earlier and then load Optimised BIOS Defaults before saving. Make sure that when you are running the QFlash program on the main page it has an option to disable Keep DMI Data, make sure this is unticked. Also while configuring the BIOS settings make sure that you set the Intel ICH10R (Northbridge) controller chip to AHCI mode.
Once you have finished with the BIOS turn the machine off and make sure that you put the SSD onto the SATA2_0 port. It is shown in the manual.
The optical drive you can put on the same conrtolled ports r to be safer on one of the ports controlled by a different chip like the Marvell. This can be set to IDE mode. Once everything is connected up you are ready to start installation.
