Title: New to the forums, new to Gigabyte, got a G1.Assassin.
Post by: Fabulist on November 25, 2011, 03:17:51 pm
Hello everyone,

I recently decided to change my current motherboard (an EVGA Classified 3 E770) with the G1.Assasin, and I hope I made the right choice.

I'd like to ask the following:

Are there any custom BIOS for my motherboard? For example, I'd like to have Intel's RAID OROM version 11.5.0.1109.

Does this board suffer from a cap in Marvell's transfer speed under RAID 0, like many other boards do - thus making it more effective to use RAID 0 under Intel though it is SATA 2?

Are there any user guides, suggestions and tweaks around that I can study?

Note that I have posted the same thread in TweakTown forums, because as far as I understand people there are also into Gigabyte boards.

Thanks for reading this, any suggestions are welcome,

Cheers.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte UK Forum.

What version/revision of the Gigabyte Assassin have you got. There is the "old" version which takes the i7 9** and is based on the X58 series chipset or the newer one based on the X79 chipset that has recently been released ?

Ah right, I didn't mention that.

I have the x58 or the old version!

The G1.Assassin is a very nice board by all accounts and I have a similar model in the X58A-UD7. I have been running it for over a year now about 16 hours a day and it has always preformed perfectly. In fact I also have a newer SandyBridge board with a 2500K but I still use the UD7 for my everyday tasks.

I am sure that you will be happy with the Assassin as it has some very nice features. To my knowledge there isn't any custom BIOSes for the board on this site but you could always try TweakTown or StationDrivers as they tend to get the more unusual files.

If there is a specific problem that you are facing with the board that requires a BIOS fix then GGTS can be quite helpful at times in customising one to help out.
