Title: GA-890FXA-UD5 memory question
Post by: Dooglo on November 27, 2011, 01:46:59 am
Hello to all.  I have a GA-890FXA-UD5 rev. 3.1 with a Phenom II*4 965.  Currently running G.Skill DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 4Gb*4.  I can run all 16Gb for about a day, then get blue screen while heavy gaming. My graphics card is a GeForce GTS 450, which is 1Gb.  It should be plenty for gaming.  So, I've reduced to 8Gb from 16Gb.   Am wondering if there is a better manufacturer of said ram size (16Gb)  I'd like that anyone has knowledge of?

Thanks,

D.

You need to lower it to 1333 and manually set timing also ungang your ram. Try that see if it still happens.  Then post PSU specs wattage and amaps on 12 volt rail.  also disable any power savers.

With a Phenom ii 965 processor I wouldn't advise running your RAM faster than 1333MHz. Check here for more information: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2515.0.html

Also check your voltages on the ram..on my UD5 the default voltage on the ram was only 1.488 when set at 1.5.  I had to set it to manual and up the voltage to 1.525 to get a constant 1.504. I use Aida64 but I'm sure there are other progs out there.

Have to ask did you test your ram with Memtest?

I've been using Corsair Vengence myself  both normal and the low profile it's fast stable and can be had for under 100$ USD for 16 gigs.
I can't say for sure if it will work on the 890fx though it's not on the supported memory list.

The only 4g modules listed for your board is  KET16D1 Kingston 4GB KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX

I can confirm that the Corsair Vengeance modules work on this motherboard and in fact, my son's system has the 965 processor running with 16GB of Vengeance but only at 1333MHz on this motherboard without any problems.

Lowered to 1333 and Memtested again.  After 3hrs no errors.  Psu is a CoolerMasterSilent Pro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171049 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171049).  Haven't done any heavy gaming on it yet but maybe try something soon, like tonight and see what happens.  Voltage is at 1.51 and timings are at 9 9 9 24 .Not sure what else you need to know.

Thanks,

D.
