hi i have just got a brand new GA-870a-usb3 rev 3.1 board and a new bulldozer fx 4100 cpu. i have put it all together using the 24pin plug and 8 pin 12v plug 1 stick of ram and my graphics card. when i power on i get no beeps or display. also the cpu fan runs very slowly which I'm not sure is a problem or not? i think i have tried everything and think i might have a duff board. so i thought i would post as a last resort to get it sorted.
i have tried 3 new sticks of ram and without any ram still no beeps, without graphics card, clearing cmos and bench test.
the only thing i have not tried is a bios update but I'm sure the board takes the cpu without updating?
is there anything else i can try or do i need to send the board back?
thanks

Hi there,
sorry to burst your bubble but the board won't take the FX processor until you have the latest BIOS installed (F5d) as the board was probably shipped with an earlier BIOS.
The only way you will be able to update to this BIOS is if you have a compatible CPU that works with the F1 or F3 BIOS http://uk.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3788

thanks for a really quick reply! i did think that was likely. ill give that a bash tonight. is there any way i can update bios without another processor? thanks

Sadly not, you have to have a recognised CPU for the system to POST and allow you to enter BIOS and QFlash.

Hi
Is this problem really solved with updating the bios?
I'm in the same situation but with a fx 6100 processor

Hi and welcome.
Yes I am afraid it is . It is a nice easy fix but does require that you have an older supported CPU to be able to run the update. The only other way is to take it to a local shop and get them to flash the board's BIOS for you. Once done make sure that you synchronise the two BIOS chips for future safety.

Just wanted to post that I just upgraded my firmware and put my AMD FX-6100 processor and now everything goes well with the AM3+ socket
Thanks for your help and time
