If the monitor does  not display the problem is one of three things:

1. the video card -  a.)  check connection to motherboard - in tight, etc.?
b.)  check power cables from power supply to video card

2. the video cable - check connections at video card and monitor

3. the monitor - check power button, etc.

Hi mtekin8, ;)

Have you tried to check if a cable have a connector pin damaged?
Check if a connector on video card, where the cable plug in, are ok or damaged?

Check if the cable are inserted in good place, not in Onboard Video, other video card by exemple.

Remove a graphics card, check if in a PCI slot, if he have a dust, scrap of paper or any small things.
Use a Flash Light, if needed.

Check if a graphic card are good inserted on slot.

Check if your Monitor have a front light ON (when is plugged on the wall)...

After plugged monitor, Ligh On,

Check when you holding the cable (from video card) very near to the place where it enters the monitor (back side on Monitor)
if by move the cable from left to right slowly or Up-down cable.... if there is change, anything you see on the screen?

Sometime the cable are damaged at this place near back side on Monitor.

Have you another Monitor, by a neighbor, friend, work colleague ...
to see if the problem is the graphics card or Monitor.
Same thing if you have another graphics card, even very old card on PCI or PCI Express slots.

-----------------
Bios

Check if in Bios, your setting for Initial Display First is set to PEG. PciExpressGraphics ... card.

the problem could have been a bad ram stick.

did you have a card in the pcie slot?  I have a tv card there.   I noticed that if you do and you change the setting of first init display to say PEG1,  mine does the same, will just boot into a black screen till you reset cmos LOL.  what a pain.

That is just what I would expect to happen in that situation and can be a pain if you need to use that configuration for some reason. A lot of people don't even realise that they need to change their BIOS setting if they have the GPU installed in another slot. ;)

hey i dont know if your still having problems with this motherboard but my brother was having the same issue. it turns out that this motherboard doesn't support FX processors till you update the bios. go to the gigabyte site and download the bios update 5 or 6. u have to use an old am3 processor to get it to post then u can update the bios with q-flash using a usb or floppy. pretty stupid if u ask me i guess they rushed this mobo out cause of FX processor delays or something.. it was frustrating but we got it working perfect now :) hope this helps

It is always prudent to check the list of supported CPUs to see what BIOS version they start being supported at. As you say an older supported processor will be required to flash the BIOS if your new CPU is unsupported at the moment.

The other option is to get the shop to flash the BIOS for you to make sure that it is ready for your intended CPU before you actually take receipt of it.

mtekin8 you dont say what bios version , only bios ver:5 or above will support the new FX series of processor for that board .
I had the same problem with my 880 series board ,I had nothing on screen ,not even able to adjust or update bios , I ended up swapping the processor for a phenom  955 be so i could update the bios to the latest ,then swapped back and everything was working fine .
apparently a common problem.

I quite intentionally didn't mention which BIOS version in my post because it depends on what CPU or other device you require the BIOS to be updated for. ;)

As you say for this board and the Bulldozer CPU it must be at least F5.

sorry Dark Mantis ,a misunderstanding I think , my remarks were intended for the OP .  I dont have your knowledge in these matters ,but was pointing out (to the OP) that I had the same symptoms and why .
I had assumed my board would just work as it "supported" the new chips ,and made the mistake of biulding the kit without checking what bios were required ,unaware that the graphics would not work at all with an unsupported chip (due to incorrect bios ver:)
