Hi all
Have just purchased the GA-X58A-UD3R board and will be connecting two SATA III drives to it.
I see various drivers are available to download from Gigabytes site. Can I install Windows 7 64 bit then install the SATA III drivers or do I need to do something like you used to have to do with XP years ago when SATA first appeared, pressing F6 during install and having the drivers on something like a floppy?
Many thanks

Hi ojustaboo, ;)
Welcome to forum
Happy new year...
I see on weblink:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449#dl
the list of drivers for SATA RAID.
(I add a picture below)
It would be nice to provide us with all of your configuration. Like PSU, graphic card, RAM, CPU, Hard Disk and SSD.
Please gives a WebLink of Brands and exact model of your hardware. Thanks for your comprehension.
In this weblink:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449#sp
You have a Storage Interface for your motherboard:
South Bridge:
6 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (SATA2_0, SATA2_1, SATA2_2, SATA2_3, SATA2_4, SATA2_5) supporting up to 6 SATA 3Gb/s devices
Support for SATA RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 10
GIGABYTE SATA2 chip:
1 x IDE connector supporting ATA-133/100/66/33 and up to 2 IDE devices
2 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (GSATA2_8, GSATA2_9) supporting up to 2 SATA 3Gb/s devices
Support for SATA RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD
Do you are using your hard drive or SSD in RAID? Or, in AHCI mode?
Whatever the method, it is important to connect your hard drive and SSD on the following ports:
SATA2_0, SATA2_1, SATA2_2, SATA2_3, SATA2_4, SATA2_5.
The other ports SATA is for other device like CD-ROM, DVD-Burner...
Particular problem normally except you should be able to connect your hard drive, SSD and go to Bios to select your choice of RAID or AHCI ....
Then install Windows.
After installing Windows, install the drivers.
But if you use RAID, follow the instructions in your manual.
http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-x58a-ud3r_v2.0_e.pdf
Where appropriate, it may be that you need to install the drivers first with
Option Note: Press F6 DURING Windows setup to read from floppy.

Hi, many thanks for your reply.
It's the SATA 3 that I want to use, not the SATA2. In the 2nd weblink you posted, it also shows
Marvell 9128 chip:
2 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (GSATA3_6, GSATA3_7) supporting up to 2 SATA 6Gb/s devices
Support for SATA RAID 0, and RAID 1
It was those that I wondered if the windows 7 install DVD would recognise.
I am using the drives in AHCI mode.

Hi Ojustaboo, ;)
Thanks for your detail hardware. Good.
I suggest you install this drivers from Intel:
Intel IRST:

If you have a problem with AHCI mode... see here:
How can I switch to AHCI Mode after installing Windows in IDE Mode?
