Hi and welcome.
As Gloup_Gloup mentioned a little more information wouild probably help us in envisaging the system in total. It might just be that the BIOS version that you have loaded isn't the latest and hasn't got support for your drive.

Hi goneb4u, ;)

have uninstalled and reinstalled both several times, have the crucial m4 ssd on a sata3 port with the new western digital sata3 2tb hard drive above it on same port, there remains a free "gsata" port that is sata3 but I do not know what "G" means.

Hi again,
Install your Hard Drive and SSD on Chipset ICH port.
Or on circuit-chip for SATA3.
Not on GSata Port.
EDIT01:
Check in your manual, page 10-11
http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z68xp-ud4_e.pdf
SATA3_0, SATA3_1

thanks, they are both installed on sata3 port, not gsate3 port. i am in process of uninstalling many programs so i can shrink main drive to fit on 64gb ssd so os will run from there with only a few systems...thanks again for the help, I believe gigabyte needs another firmware upgrade for ez smart technology to work with certain hard drives.

Hi again,
I suggest you install this drivers from Intel:
Intel IRST:

If you have a problem with AHCI mode... see here:
How can I switch to AHCI Mode after installing Windows in IDE Mode?

thanks again, updated the intel drivers and know change, found a EFI hard drive setting in my bios that states it has to be on for 2.2tb hard drives so turned it on but know change, sent a ticket in to gigabyte web site for tech support...very frustrated, tried to thin out my hard drive to clone over to my 64gb ssd but cann't make it small enough, will wait for a 120 gb ssd to go on a good sale...any further thoughts would be appreciated...thanks.
