Title: RE: boards with nVIDIA SLI
Post by: Vorn on January 07, 2012, 10:34:26 pm
Are there any motherboards for Phenom II X6 processors that have nVIDIA SLI? Been told to look for boards with nVIDIA or Via northebridge/southbridge chipsets, but not having much luck. Also need board to be ATX or larger, have floppy disk drive, at least five SATA connectors, five functional PCIe/PCI slots (2 for the SLI graphics cards), one FireWire, and one (Gigabit) ethernet. Any boards like this?

Take out the requirement for floppy and you can find them easy enough.Try any of the series of 990 chipset like

GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3  or the UD5 or the UD7              Multi-display support with 2 way SLI and 2 way CrossFireX
on the UD3 and for the UD5 it is   Multi-display Support with 3-way SLI and 3-way CrossFireX

Not a problem just buy an external USB floppy drive.  ;)

I know...that's why I posted. Without the floppy,I could find one myself. I require floppy for at least one of the operating systems I'll be using.

I'l be using Linux Mint, XP Pro, and Win2000 on three dedicated HDDs. Been told on other forums I need internal floppy for at least the Win2000 (some say XP Pro too). Seem nothing else will do...asked about using instead CD/DVD, external floppy, internal floppy conected via USB, etc. Each in turn was nixed. Been told that for certain emergency situations (flashing BIOS, intall certain drivers, and something else I've forgotten) only regular internal floppy will do...and seems no way to install one on board not having floppy drive connector. So it looks like I'm stuck requiring board to have one.

That's because of the native USB support for USB in some of the earlier versions of the OS. :-\ What about installing a floppy drive supporting PCI card ?

I bought from TigerDirect online, 1 internal floppy drive with card reader (i.e. SD, ms/duo) and usb port, connects internally to a USB port for only $17.00.
