I built a PC using the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 motherboard, and installed two Samsung SH-D163C SATA ODDs.
I installed all the motherboard drivers, including the Marvell console. The OS is Win 7 64 bit (although I had the same problem with Win 7 32 bit too).
Nero7 Smart Start came with the ODDs so I also installed that.
I can read from the drives but can't write to either of them (which is what makes me think it's a mobo/driver problem, not a hardware problem with the ODDs).
I ran Samsung's WinInquire tool and checked that the latest firmware is installed (SB02).
When I run Nero, neither ODD is shown in the list of available writers - I just get the 'emulator' option.
Has anyone else come across this problem and can tell me what I need to do/install to get them to write?
Thanks

Hi
What ports have you got the drives connected to ?
What mode are the ports set to ?

Embarrassed to discover that these aren't DVD writers. I didn't think anyone still made ODDs that were read-only any more but apparently that's what these are.
Thanks for the reply though.

Hey we all make mistakes and often rather embarassing ones! As you say you just assume certain things at times and not always correctly.
