Title: Fitting a Hyper 212 plus to a GA-MA770-UD3. does it fit ok.
Post by: deejayburnout on January 11, 2012, 01:31:57 pm
Afternoon peeps

Seems a bit of a long shot but has anyone here who has a GA-MA770-UD3 ever fitted a Hyper 212 CPU heatsink to the MOBO and how does it fit.

Does it foul the RAM slots at all?

If no-one has fitted a Hyper 212, is there any other heatsinks that they can recommend.

Cheers

I think you might have problems . The Hyper 212 has dimensions of 120 x 79.7 x 158.5 mm (L x W x H), so it will overhang your DIMM slots if it can only be fitted in one direction. I had a similar problem with Arctic Freezer Pro CPU cooler which is also 120 mm wide, which can only be fitted in certain directions with AMD sockets.

To be safe, you should get a cooler that is 100 mm wide at most, or a cooler with a lot of clearance between the DIMM slot and the lowest cooling fin.

You can have a look at my earlier post at http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2473.0.html (http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2473.0.html) to see some photos of what I mean.

Succeeding the popular Hyper 212, the Hyper 212 Plus is not as wide as the former. I use the Plus model and the Corsair memory I use has very tall heat spreaders. The tall heat spreader interferes with slot 1. Clearance is okay for the other three slots. I use two sticks in slots 3 and 4.
