Title: X58A-UD3R Best Raid Controller
Post by: Mikeincarson on January 14, 2012, 09:09:37 pm
Greetings...   X58A-UD3R, Of all the possible choices and combinations, which would be the best performing controller to use for a RAID-0 boot/system configuration.  Storage and backup/mirror will be on other drives.  Or another way to ask is, does one raid controller have an advantage over the other for reasons not covered in the manual?   I was thinking of making a RAID-0 with a pair of 500GB SATA3 drives on the SATA3 port for the system/boot.   Any better, faster options using any of the other controller options, configurations?

Thank you in advance

If you are talking about using the onboard controllers.....

  What works and works well.........

Relegate the Marvell controller to optical .... if you use it for anything else on this board ....... problems can arise . ;)

Intel ICH10R controller for every thing else ...... it can actually run two separate Raids concurrently.  8)

The only faster options available require spending money .......PCI-E Raid cards or a PCI-E based SSD Drive. :'(

  Any other questions ? ;D
