Title: Dropdown error box
Post by: Peter Fitzsimmons on January 24, 2012, 11:20:28 am
Greetings all,
The PC tower is a Pryon with a Foxconn H55MXV MB, Intel CORE i5 CPU, 8 gig of RaM & Windows7 OS, I was reinstalling a Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 5770 PCI card on the MB after removing the HD 6950 PCI card to use on a new build.  I unenstalled the ATi programs and installed the driver program and the following dropdown box popped up, 'Driver Install: The INF file was not found.'

I was intouch with MS and they said it was not their issue, can you please help?

Regards.
Peter.

Check you have in fact downloaded and installed the correct Catalyst driver (64bit/32bit) ....this can cause the INF error you described ....

Sometimes the full driver package is a good thing....especially if CCC is to be utilized

Secondly ..... the OS install disc ..... try the disc's repair facility if the above one fails to fix the problem.

Hi

The next thing to try is to clear the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Greetings all,

Thank you for your suggestions and I have implemented both.

I have checked and I have downloaded the correct 64 bit program and I have carried out out the clearing of the CHOS and the removal of the Battery and I still have the same issue after I reinstalled the default BIOS and I still have the same issue.

Do you have any other ideas that might help me get this issue sorted.

Thank you,

Peter

Hi Peter,

You should have loaded the Optimised BIOS Defaults afterwards not the Default settings.

Thank for you help.

I'll give them a burle in the morning, please excuse my ingorance, but you can do a repair using MS windows 7?  And what are the Optimised BIOS defaults?  where do I find them?

One of my main problems is not a willingness to learn but never having to do this my self, when I studied aircraft enginerring in the early 70s i was still using a slide rule, So I have been on a very steep learning curve the last couple of months planning all of this.  Its has been an absolute joy working this all out.

I'll look foward to your helpful reply.
Kind regards

Peter. ;D

  Hi and Welcome Pete ....

As an aircraft engineer you'll find it as easy as a walk in the park with a few land mines scattered about  :D

Firstly the "optimized defaults" .... when you first boot up the machine, if you tap the "delete" key this will take you to the BIOS window ..... in here you will notice the first BIOS configuration window ..... using the arrow keys to navigate, and the "enter" key to choose ..... will take you to these sub windows. ( use the "Escape" key to reverse) ..... have a play to familiarize yourself but find the "Optimized Defaults and action this field with the enter key ..... then "save settings" ....... next go through and configure in other BIOS windows to suit your hardware (32bit or 64bit ect, ect) ..... this is where your manual will be invaluable and can walk you through the procedure page by page.

By setting "Optimized Defaults" ..... when you eventually re-boot ..... the BIOS will then hunt for absolutely everything connected up to your system amongst other things

Windows repair:  if you have a OS installed ...... by putting in the W7 installation disc and rebooting your machine ...... follow the prompts in the startup screen to boot off the DVD/CD Drive (F12 from memory, tap,ta,tap) but this will be in the manual and at the bottom of the splash screen while boot up is taking place ..... set to boot off the DVD and follow the prompts ..... don't click install but the repair options ....follow the prompts and it will have a hunt through the registry and try and effect a repair.....if you have any trouble, just post again .....I or someone else will be more then happy to help.
