Title: 990-FXA-UD3 & FX8150
Post by: Sol1960 on January 27, 2012, 10:09:21 am
Hi to all, i am getting my refurbished 990fxa ud3 rev.1  board back from warranty repair, (ongoing since early november)
and also had to replace my 1100t (under warranty) with a FX 8150 they no longer stock the phenoms x6, i asked them to update the bios for me but they forgot! >:( they say that this board may have the bios already to suit the FX cpu..... i think not as my experience tells me
My question is, if it does not when i put the system together what wil i expect...will it post?

Thanks in advance

Hi

The chances are that if the motherboard's BIOS doesn't support the processor that you insert it will just not run. It probably won't even POST. You will require a supported CPU to run the BIOS update and then swap the CPUs over.

As expected i fitted the new FX cpu it did not run not even boot. the board has been sent back for updating the bios.

Should i have the F5 bios installed or the F6f beta bios installed?

Regards,

The board model number and revision that you gave us means that any BIOS from F3 will be sufficient to support the processor. The main difference between the two versions that you mention is that the later beta BIOS has support for Quick Boost function.

I am more knowledgeable on the Intel side of things but as far as I understand it it has to do with the way power is supplied to the USB ports. It's not something that I have come across myself but I expect someone else can help here.
