Currently pondering on an SSD, these look pretty fast but they're also pretty darn pricey! http://www.scan.co.uk/shops/intel/520ssd

£115 for 60gb etc!  :o

Hi MiiCK!

Your post caught my eye because I thought you were referring to a city that grows lots of cherries... ;D

Needless to say, I read the Intel links you posted and was deeply impressed with everything I read with the exception of one area only:  THE PRICE!

$1000 for a 480GB SSD?  Dude, I would have to melt all the gold from my teeth and I would still be only halfway there to the purchase price.

On the positive side of things...

5 year warranty
Intel quality
Screaming speed

I am presently using two of the Intel 320 160GB series and I am very, very happy with them.  Granted, they are SATA II, but in the real world applications there is not a huge difference between SATA II and SATA III.  I picked up the Intel 320's for $145 each.

I suppose if you have the money to burn, Cherryville would be a great choice!  Of all the good points of the Cherryville, I like Intel's 5 year warranty best of all.

Hi

They do look very enticing and not a bad price....about normal for what we pay over here! The 120GB doesn't seem to be too highly priced especially when you consider the benefits. As with most things you get what you pay for.

I'm currently in the market for an SSD, wondering whether or not to go for one of these!...

Anyone need someone to come clean their house for a few extra pennies?  :-* will have to get saving for the 120gb!

It is ridiculous the prices we are expected tpo pay over here for hardware though. If you check the prices in the States compared to here they are usually anything up to 50% lower in America. There is no real reason for this especially when looking at European manufactured devices!  I guess a lot of it is due to government taxes but I am sure it cannot all be laid at the feet of our greedy beaurocrats. It is no wonder that most of the big builds seem to come from abroad.

I agree 'DM' the prices are very high here also, that's why I buy overseas via the internet even for software, some products are half price, but now our local shops are complaining that we are purchasing products overseas & are asking the government to put taxes on all goods purchased.

What gets me is that these companies buy from the same company & mostly in bulk so they get it cheaper & sell it at ridiculously high prices.

We are trying to fight the big companies & also asking the Government not to add any extra taxes, it's about time these companies got a taste of their own medicine, they destroyed the small corner shops & little stores now the tables have been turned.

Ben.
