Due to arrival of Chrome 17 (http://hexus.net/ce/news/internet/35061-google-chrome-17-hits-mainstream-release/) I wonder what is your preferred browser and why?

Just "FireFox" for me!
Why? ..... Ive used Fox for many years now .... exposure to vulnerabilities and attacks is chalk and cheese between IE and FOX ...... many of the features we now use and like (tab browsing) was pioneered by fox and has matured well .... more personally versatile with skins, apps and plug-ins .....and just use to the dashboard....
To be honest I don't claim to know very much of the others .....But I do keep IE up to date as it's still really integral to the W7 OS even if it's purely for Auto-updates ..... more of a "If it isn't broke, Don't try and fix-it!" 8)

Well I still tend to use IE. It may be far from perfect but it does the job of keeping the updates running and I just find that I am at home using it. It may not be best by any means but everyone knows it and so it can be useful when talking to other users who might not be "au fait" with other browsers.

I mainly use Google Chrome, but have IE for news ,emails.

google chrome here, could not get firefox to work proberly no matter what i tryed

Opera for me.
IE kept on locking up with Kaspersky IS. So I loaded Chrome, Opera and Firefox.
Firefox just didn't make and impression. Chrome was OK, but I felt "comfortable" with Opera right from the start.
For me, Opera loads quicker (speed dial on opening) and just seams slicker.
Chrome performs better http://peacekeeper.futuremark.com/ but I prefer Opera.

"Old Dog New Tricks"
Well I got to thinking ..... how can I be so opinionated .... so I downloaded and installed "Chrome" a few day ago ..... Not bad really, .... Not bad at all!
Still getting use to the dashboard and it feels pretty handy ... give it a few weeks and I'll post back with my final views.

I use Firefox nearly all the time. I have heard of security vulnerabilities and greater susceptibility to viruses using IE, thus I rarely use it at all.
I tried Opera, didn't like it all that much. I tried Chrome, and I liked it because once in a while my Firefox would slow down like a Volkswagen and made the Chrome look like a Porsche.
Vroooom, Vrooooom!

I switched to Chrome some time ago from Firefox and don't regret the move.
Like Aussie Allan, I also keep IE up-to-date and on my system and use it very occasionally, as there are still a few websites that seem to only like IE.

AA,
I seem to see a pattern of slowdowns with FireFox...
Before, during, or after a new update. Usually it will fix itself after a restart and I have never experienced a slowdown for more than a day. But it can be frustrating when Firefox requires 3-5 times longer to load a page than Chrome. This slow down pattern began about 6 months ago for me.
Runn3r's poll prompted me to do a little more reading about the new Chrome. I have now decided to import all my bookmarks to Chrome from Firefox and will give it a try for a week. Thanks Runn3r for the prompt!
Actung, Actung Jedermann: Chrome can be much faster than FireFox at times. Vroom, Vroooooooom!

One of the most put forward arguments of not using IE was always that because it was the most widely used browser that most maleware was focussed on attacking IE. I am sure that was correct but I think now, and bourne out by this poll, that is no longer the case and so maybe some of the other browsers should take note of this fact.
I think that I must give Chrome a proper trial as so many people now seem to hold it in high esteem. 8)

Seems that IE & Chrome are the popular ones.
My main problem is Spam, no not the tin variety lol, I get some Sheila called Pamela wanting to give me money all the time, tried blocking but she keeps coming back, so now I just delete, delete etc.

Chrome..........for me i used firefox & opera which i found both equally good , but i find chrome overall is faster for me, but i use IE for work related programs.....only as they are designed to work with IE. If i use the other browsers some functionality is distorted ever so slightly so i stay with IE just for simplicity sake
