Hello there
I bought GA-X58-USB3 today at a local shop which is closing down for business. Just randomly bought it.
When I came home, and replaced my old GA-EX58-UD3R. Is that I can't use my old memory set which was KHX1600C9D3K4/16GX.. 4x4 GB.
I only get 12 GB of memory.. and if I remove one of the sticks.. I go down to 8 GB.
It's a bit annoying when the computer has to reboot 2-3 times every time, to Recover lost DRAM or what ever the message was again.
I don't care if it's single channel setup, just don't feel like wasting money if I don't really need to.
However.. If there ain't a way to work around it. I was considering getting KHX1600C9D3K6/24GX which are 6x4 GB.. would that work, or do I really have to buy 2x KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX ?

Hi and welcome.
It might be because the pins are damaged in the CPU socket. If that is the case I would suggest having a good look and making sure.
Take all the usual anti-static precautions.
Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.
Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.
Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.
Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
Take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check.
Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.
Before refitting the CPU clean off all residue of the old thermal paste and the same on the heatsink and then apply a small amount (about the size of a grain of rice) to the centre of the CPU once it is inserted in the socket.

I've just taken the cooling fan of the cpu, and I can see there are some pins on the motherboard indeed are bent.
I assume there ain't much I can do about it. But my problem is that I bought this Motherboard from a shop that's closing down.
I don't know where I can return it for a new one, if even possible.
I bought it yesterday
Seems like I'll be going back to my old GA-EX58-UD3R :S

If you can upload a couple of good macro photos of the bent pins I will be able to give you a better idea of what to do next and whether they are indeed repairable.

Yup! Rolo got that one ..... you also have a badly bent pin very top left of the socket and another burnt/bent/damaged pin , very bottom/middle, just a tad to the right (second row up ... 3 pins to the right ..... severe case of metal termites ...or a board thats already been RMAed....... I think the shop going out of business was doing so for a good reason ......sorry you got caught :'(

Thank you for your inputs on discovering what was wrong with my motherboard :)
I went back to the store today.. And demanded my money back. Which I got :D
Think I'll just stay with my old motherboard until it's time to swap out my CPU as well.
I use Socket 1366. i7 920 @ 2,67 GHz. Think it's the first generation. Still works well with me. Clocked it to 3,3 GHz tho :P
If I upgrade, I don't buy the most expensive things. I go for mostly middle class.. or items where I get most for the money.
Is is "worth" Swapping to Socket 1155, and the i5 - 2500K or which one it was.. Or should I just stick with what I have?
Any inputs on that?

Is your computer running the programs you want in the manner you want; are you completely satisfied? If you are, then let your money grow while you wait until you aren't happy with it, then get the best bang/buck at that time.
If you aren't happy with it, elaborate as to why.

As Rolo says, stick with it unless you feel it's not satisfying your needs. By the time you get round to upgrading to 1155 then it'll be time for other sockets and you'll be buying an old system in effect, socket 2011 is out and Ivybridge soon, wait till you NEED to upgrade and see what's available to you at the time :) 2500k is good, but i'm sure it'll be bettered sometime.

As you have already discovered there werer several bent pins on the socket so it was good news that you found them in time and managed to get a refund! Crafty b**tards thought they would get away with it and be gone by the time you sussed it. ;)
