Title: GA-H61M-D2H-USB3 new build hangs on "Loading OS"
Post by: tuc tuc on February 12, 2012, 03:52:14 pm
Hi all, this is my first post here so please go easy!

I've upgraded my wifes pc that had mobo fail, it was old & a friend in IT recommended the basic spec below. Its a fresh build as wnated an SSD, once system up & running old HDD will be added.

I am having trouble as the title says that it hangs at "Loading OS", I've tried changing boot priority in BIOS to boot from DVD, resetting cmos and restoring defualts but still the same.
The SSD & DVD are recognised in the BIOS, one thing I noticed was memory running at 1064mhz not 1333 & I cannot change it? If this is a BIOS issue, how can I update it from my laptop?

Any ideas what I should try to load the OS Windows 7? (I tried teh old XP boot disc & nothing either)
Any help much appreciated,
Chris

Hi and welcome.

Firstly I know that you say you have already cleared the CMOS  but please do it again my way Follow these instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Will do Dark Mantis done that & now waiting, I removed the battery for 1minute previously & didn't press the power switch for a few seconds either.

The first 2 boots came up with OS disc error or load OS disc or something (that was 5hrs ago!), then that message didn't appear again.

Once you have waited to clear the CMOS memory and then completed the fix make sure that you note down any messages that you get exactly. It can make a huge difference!

I've done that & its stuck at "Loading Operating System ..."

I put the gigabyte utilities disc in earlier & it ran & came up with the download screen options (I didn't download anything) but this doesn't work now either.

I have the SSD on SATA2_0 and the DVD on SATA2_1, the bios recognises both drives.

Have you got the controllers set to IDE or AHCI modes ?

Might be worth trying to update the BIOS unless you are runing the latest one already.

Does it boot from DVD without the SSD connected?

- Flash BIOS with latest release (or beta if you are so inclined) with QFlash, clear DMI data
- Load optimised defaults, then set your options how you like
- Check your SSD firmware for updates:

Controllers set to IDE, Bios is F1 version, I just tried (again) setting it to boot from dvd drive but just hangs "Loading operating system..., Boot from cd / dvd :"

:-(

Definitely update your BIOS.

To clarify: disconnect your SSD entirely and see if you can boot from DVD (also, ensure your boot disc is good, test in another machine)
