Title: Intel retires 7 Core i7 and 9 Core i5 desktop CPUs
Post by: Gloup_Gloup on April 01, 2012, 06:51:39 am
Hi friend,  ;)

Extract:

Intel is killing some older Core i7 processors including Core i7 960, Core i7 950 and Core i7 930 based on the 45nm Bloomfield core. It is also terminating Core i7 880 and Core i7 870S in Q2 2012 based on Lynnfield 45nm
Dual-core.

The Core i5 750S and Core i5 655K should be gone in Q1 2012, they are on their death beads right now and these are first generation Core parts that launched in Q3 2010. They are based on the Westmere 32nm architecture.

This would not be a surprise actually considering that there is a new wave of processors being brewed that are slated to come out in the not so distant couple of months.  They have taken and consumed the average life cycle for those pieces so it really is time to hang up the gloves and proceed with something newer.

They are slated to lack the power needed anyway so you just have to upgrade.
