G'day everybody. I have recently become the proud owner of GA-X79-UD5 in a Custom Build. I made my first foray into the BIOS to switch off Hyperthreading which is widely advocated for Flight Sim using FSX. I did not touch or change anything else. I pressed F10 (Save and Exit) and the machine closed down and will not reboot.
I read an active thread along similar lines, but in my case I can not even get started because I do not know where the Battery is. Perhaps it is marked on an image of this MB somewhere? Help please, thanks, Mac

FOUND IT ... Now who was the genius who mounted it under the GTX 580. I would like "A Word" please. Mac

It always seems to be underneath something that has to be moved to allow access. ::) Have you got the CMOS cleared now and everything working again ? You should have loaded Optimised BIOS Defaults after clearing everything.

No far from it I am afraid. I have only just removed the Battery and as it is late afternoon here in Perth I will not be able to replace Battery and GTX 580 until tomorrow morning. The screen has been as black as night since I hit F10. Mac

While I have your attention good Sir, I notice that there seems to be two identical sets of slots in the MB. One had the GTX 580 installed, the other is empty. Are they a parallel set (scuse old word terms, been around a long time) and if so I think it would be better if this is going to happen at times to relocate the GTX to the vacant slots. Mac

No, I am afraid that you really need to use the top PCIEx16_1 for the graphics card if you only have one installed.
You can try replaing the battery and loading the Optimised BIOS Default settings after about one hour of leaving it if you want to try. If it doesn't work after that long then you can go back to the origianl plan.

Many thanks, I shall proceed accordingly. AND I just discovered that it is NOT the PCIEX16 slot that covers the Battery, therefore the GTX must have been mounted incorrectly. This means I could try a reboot fairly soon. Cheers, Mac

No the graphics card was fitted correctly I am sure. It is just that the GPU is fairly large and covers more than a single slot some even cover three! When installed it will cover the battery container.

Ah ... OK thanks.

Still at square one I am afraid. Battery out for 75 mins and still no boot.
Silly old B...... forgot to plug the power back to the GTX didn't he? Idiot. OK have now got a boot into Windows.
May we have an autopsy please before I attempt to turn off the Hyperthreading again. Thanks
