Title: memory help!!!!! in 990fxa ud3 rev. 1.1
Post by: lrivera1342 on April 09, 2012, 05:51:22 pm
hey all i have spent hours and days trying to get my system to see all my physical memory

presently in the system control panel it states INSTALL MEMORY 12 Gb (USEABLE 7.98)??????

i have tried the original bios settings and the most current f6k

the cpu is an 8150

windows 7 64 bit
memory i am using corsair vengeance 16gb matched box set cmz16gx3m4a1600c9b  which both websites (gigabyte and corsair) fits????
i tried all in dual modes and it reads 6gb and 3.98 usable?? meaning i tried all configured around 1 and 3   2 and 4 with all modules rearranged

i have not bios tinkering or tampering enabled? i thought i would get 1600 16gb memory without any different setting which i am lost to try

Try using F5 BIOS.  The F6K is beta.  only two digit BIOS are stable.  three digit BIOS are BETA TEST only.

Good luck

Have you set your memory manually in BIOS?

If not, set the timings to 9-9-9-24 2T

In case you're not sure, it is located in the:

MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) --> DRAM Configuration

scroll down to Set Memory Clock and change to [Manual]

set Memory Clock to [x8.000] for 1600MHz memory speed.

Then scroll down to DDR3 Timing Items and set to [Manual]

set the next items to 9-9-9-24-2t:

1T/2T Command Timing [2T]
CAS# Latency [9T]
RAS to CAS R/W Delay [9T]
Row Precharge Time [9T]
Minimum RAS Active Time [24]

I have the 970A-UD3 board, but gigabyte is good about keeping the BIOS the same.

Let us know if this works for you

If that doesn't work (which it usually does) then it might be that you have a setting called maxmem set to 8GB. Check here:

Start/run/msconfig/boot/advanced options/maximum memory

thanks BM for the reply ill try that but i sent the board back since it was the same two modules that where reading only half the memory?? #2 and 4 no matter what i put there it just read half>

so when i put brand new memory in slot 1 and 3 it still read only 6 gb and 4 gb usable out of a total (8gb) it seemed odd that the board did everything perfect except show the correct memory ???? i either put in 16 gb and it showed 12 with onkly 8 usable or install 8 with only 6 usable ?? ( this is using 4 gb memory sticks
