I bought an HP Proliant N40L Microserver for a home server project and I decided to order 8GB to go with it. I decided to put a stick on this motherboard to see if was compatible and violla, it works like a champ. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. I was going to buy a 990 board as I heard they supported ECC RAM, but I decided to save money and get the 970 board. Now I can transfer this board to a server case in the future if I find I need more horsepower from my server or decide to add more to it.
The memory I ordered was:
Kingston 8GB(2 x 4GB) KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G
They were $69.99 from the Egg. Here's their link if you want to read some reviews on it:

OK, after playing with my system a little bit I fired up cpu-z and noticed it had ECC section, but they were all grayed out and blank.
I then reboot back into the bios and the ecc section was all disabled.
Anyone know what things should be enabled or what any of it means? lol
Here is a picture of ECC settings in BIOS:

Hi
Thanks for the "heads up" regarding the ECC memory compatibility. However I would like to point out that it is no recommended and as such you take your chances when trying it. I would also suggest that if you changed the BIOS version you might lose support for ECC RAM.

Hey! I ordered some ECC RAM from Dell after reading here and in other places that this mobo would work with it. Well ....it doesn't. I don't even have an ECC option of any sort in the bios. (I have the newest beta bios on the gigabyte site)
The RAM I purchased was KTD-PE316/16G anyone know how I can make this work?
Mobo is ga-970a-ud3.
Thank you!

You purchased the wrong memory. You need ECC/unbuffered (unregistered). You bought ECC/Registered (buffered) which are for server motherboards and they have extra reliability features.
