Hi there,

Usually the audio on these boards is very reliable so I doubt it's a hardware problem and you will probably find it is down to software settings.

What operating system are you running?
Have you checked under Device Manager (if it's a Windows OS) to make sure that all the devices are working properly?
Check under sound/playback devices to make sure that the Realtek audio is set to default. Often the HD Audio output of the Graphics Card will be set as the default device which will stop the onboard sound.

Are you using the board on a new Windows installation or it is an installation that used to work on an older motherboard ?

If so i recommend you a new clean Windows install.

Download the latest driver from Realtek website and install it.

Make sure you are inserting the jacks to the back panel to test if the sound is working.

The front panel connectors needs a physical connection from the case front panel to the motherboard(check it!) and maybe a tweak in the Realtek driver that disables auto-detection for the front panel inputs(check it!).

If the on board is indeed broken you have the opportunity to use a 3-rd party sound card instead ,mostly if no RMA is possible.

Glad you got it solved. :)

Unfortunately Win 7 is quite similar to XP when it comes to hardware swaps.
I still have left overs from my 5770 video card under W7  x64  after installing a brand new ATI 6950 (previously cleaning all 5770 remainings that i could find in registry). Most of the games still see the video card as 5770 and it s very annoying. :)
No time to reinstall though :)

Enjoy the board , it  is an excellent one.
