I've been getting BSODs caused by NETIO.sys so decided to update the network driver. Downloaded the latest driver from the Gigabyte website (7.049.0927.2011). Now the PC won't connect at all. I've tried going back to the old driver, but it just says it's disconnected. Any ideas?
Should say I have Windows 7 64-bit. Realtek 8111D, I believe is the chipset. The "Diagnostic" utility just says "Disconnected". Useful...

Try this:
1. reset to default you Bios config.
2. Connect you LAN cable (have light?).
3. Delete completely your driver, windows will install his own driver.
If happend the same try with a fresh install, if the same? LAN chip dead.

It seems to be working intermittently now. A few seconds on, and then off again, then back on again. Is there some odd Sleep function I'm missing?

It was the router! Tried plugging another laptop into it and that wouldn't work either. Got hold of a different router and it immediately picked up the connection. It's also seemed to solve the booting issue I have in a separate thread as it now starts up without a problem.

Whenever I have a network issue the first thing I try is to power off both the router and the cable modem - wait a few minutes and then power back on the modem and then the router. I find they both sometimes need a "refresh" - especially like a lightening and wind storm that rolled through here last night.
Of course, you now have a good excuse to buy a better modem
