I am facing a strange problem ' regarding mainly my cpu in combination with the motherboard.
History
i recently bought a new cpu i5 3550 (Ivy Bridge) to replace the old i5-2500
Configuration
CPU Intel Core i5-3550 3.30GHz 6MB 650 MHz Ivy Bridge 22nm E1
MEMORY 1x4GB Kingston KHX1600C9D3/4G 1.65V 9905403-400.A00LF
MOTHERBOARD P67A-D3-B3 rev 1.0 F7 112540083316
GPU Gigabyte nvidia 560 3GV-N56GOC-1GI/F61
PSU akasa 600W
win 7 x64 pro
_The 1st Problem (^_^ easy one)
The motherboard (ga-p67a-d3-b3 rev1.0) couldn't start with the new cpu (i5-3550) , black screen.
_First step : i placed the old cpu (i5-2500) .
The computer booted and i did bios update .
The latest bios for my board is the F7.
I tried again to install the new cpu (i5-3550) on the ga-p67a-d3-b3 rev1.0 board .
The attempt was successful .
_The 2nd Problem
While now , system is able to boot, it becomes extremely unstable
(bsod 0x6b, system freeze ,etc) plus the post screen (the black one when computer starts)
mentions the cpu as 3.5 GHz processor (it's 3.3G based on intel's site).
At least i was able to boot in windows, i thought, but after two minutes got a wonderfull bluescreen 0x6b (0x00000etc all zeroes) .
In general the system is unstable , freezing , bsod's etc
_Second step : entered the bios , chose the M.I.T. menu , Advanced Freq Menu , in there i selected Advanced CPU core
and disabled the Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech.
Result : now i am able to use windows but sometimes the system freezes , or stops during the startup.
Any idea ?
p.s. i attach photos from the bios .http://s1079.photobucket.com/albums/w511/Suse9/gigabyte%20Ivy%20Bridge/?albumview=slideshow (http://s1079.photobucket.com/albums/w511/Suse9/gigabyte%20Ivy%20Bridge/?albumview=slideshow)
p.s.2 am i missing something obvious?

Hi
It might be worth trying to flash the BIOS back to F6 which is the version required for your CPU's support. Once flashed synchronise the two BIOS chips by pressing ALT+F12 when booting (as you would do with DEL to enter the BIOS) and it should copy over the Backup BIOS with the Main BIOS's contents.

cool , thank you for the quick response Mantis.
Just flashed the motherboard bios back to F6 but something i am missing . I tried alt+f12 while i was booting but i am getting the boot menu .
Is the same thing f12 from inside the bios ? i just did it and selected default profile , not last known good conf etc .

Now at the MIT current status turbo freq is 3.5 & non trurbo at 3.3 .
Plus windows identified the cpu 8)

From what you said it seems that the BIOS is the new EFI version and it has written to both chips already then. No problem if that is the case.
;)

grrr . system froze again , cant move mouse keyboard , nothing is responding .
what else to do :S
Memory is at 1.5 V based on thathttp://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX1600C9D3_4G.pdf (http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX1600C9D3_4G.pdf) termination,vref etc are at 1/2 .
Intel(R) turbo boost now is disabled .
run out of ideas .

MEMORY 1x4GB Kingston KHX1600C9D3/4G 1.65V 9905403-400.A00LF
Is that correct ? You are running a single 4GB stick of memory. You will need to set it manually to 1.65v and the timings also.
