I have noticed that the current mobo i am using is outdated for the games that i plan on using it for. Is there going to be a new BIOs anytime soon for the M68MT-S2 or am i just going to have to go through the wait of getting a new motherboard.

Has been a year and a half since rev 1.3 came out and no bios updates that for that either so i guess you can wait or buy a new one. Email gigabyte tech and ask them.

I do not believe that there will be a new BIOS version, I would get another board it I were you.

Yeah a year and no new BIOS I am afraid I wont get anything out of that. Ill just buy a newer one, any recommendations on a cheap board that's possibly Crossfire/SLI?
-
not a gigabyte board unless you want to upgrade to a am3+ Then i would pick the 990 chipset and the ud3h

What are you looking for in a new BIOS anyway?
That's an old 600 series board, so I'm sure it's EoL now.
What is you current rig?
we can offer upgrades better if we know what you currently have.

Fx 4100 am3+ CPU HD radeon 6770 8gigs of ram. I am looking for a mobo that updates frequently so all my games are actually compatible. Only reasoning I actually need a new one is because I'm a total war fan but sadly shogun 2 won't start due to my mobo.

That bulldozer chip is only officially supported by AM3+ motherboards. Some companies have offered BIOS updated for bulldozer support and a lot have had issues. But I'd stick to AM3+ for best results.

Shogun 2 doesn't care what motherboard it runs on. It only cares what video card you run.
Also, motherboard BIOS updates typically won't affect a game either. You may need motherboard & video card driver updates.
what do you have for a system now. maybe we can figure out what you need to make shogun run properly.
also, what error or issues do you have with shogun 2?

The Current BIOS i have for my board is called FCd (its an unofficial early 2012 update) i tried the update 3.1 for the mobo and no luck, 1.3 doesnt support my processor. All my drivers are up to date, checked with AMD catalyst suite. Applied all the FX processor fixes for shogun and again no luck. I have asked on the forums for shogun 2 and they actually have told me that i need a newer BIOS to play the game (this is actually the first time it has ever happened to me, and at first i thought "what does a BIOs have to do with a game?!")
-
The errors I get with shogun 2, nothing more than a game crash. But it crashes on startup so it is unplayable.
-
It's not the game that is having issues with your BIOS, it's you FX-4100 having issues with your BIOS.
Where did you get that BIOS? It is a beta (test) BIOS. Your motherboard uses a very old Chipset (600 serires) the bulldozer processor you have is only official designed to work with AM3+ boards only.
After updating the BIOS did you clear the CMOS on the mother board? Did you then load optimized defaults in the BIOS afterwards?
It is amazing you have gotten this far.
I got my fingers crossed for you

Have you called Gigabyte for a newer BIOS, or is that where you the FCd BIOS?
-
Found it on some forum but I'm ordering a am3+ board today. Hopefully no DOA!!!
-
And for future reference, what exactly is the CMOS, Ive never heard of that before. Can you also tell me how to clear it?
-
It's a chip on your motherboard that holds the BIOS. Make sure your board supports bulldozer before ordering. It may need an updated BIOS file before it will boot up.
It looks like you'll need BIOS F6 or higher for Bulldozer support on the GA-970A-D3 motherboard.

Yep im sure i picked the right socket. The board has everything i need plus more. The M65MT-S2 is EOL like said earlier and its time to upgrade.
-
You need more than a right socket type, you need the right BIOS. You may end up getting the board and not being able to boot your computer to apply the BIOS update. Hopefully you have the old CPU still so you can use it to update the BIOS if needed.
Remember, the Bulldozer chips where delayed a few months after the AM3+ motherboard release, so no AM3+ motherboard has support for bulldozer if you have an original BIOS. or any motherboard.
btw, which motherboard did you order?

I ordered that 970A-D3, it is AM3+ compatible, so i should be able to run the processor, and like the other guy said, it should come with the BIOS as D3 which should be compatible with bulldozers. If all else fails ill find a local computer shop and they are bound to have an older AM3 cpu laying around. Ill just boot there and Flash it to the latest.
