HI everyone
I have the GA-990FXA-UD7 motherboard and Corsair CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2 x 4GB) Dominator Memory can anyone tell me if the ram I have will be compatible with my motherboard as its not in the listed compatible memory pdf file.
Now the ram is DDR 3 runs at 1600 MGz so I can not see a problem ?
here is the link

I would be grateful for another persons opinion

Hi.
From what I see this board supports dual ram technology & these chips are designed to run this way.
The only problem may be that the chips run at 1.65V, but the overdrive should compensate for this.

HI Ben
thanks for your input is it possible you could elaborate a bit more on what you are talking about are you saying I would need to tweak the voltage ?

Hi again.
yep voltage as I think your board is standard 1.5V.
The worst that can happen is your system will play up, freeze, reboot etc.

Hi Ben
Cheers this possibly means that I will need purchase ram at 1.5 volts, I have not put my system together yet as I am asking few questions that needed answering anyway cheers

Hi
I haven't checked on the QVL of Corsair for compatibility with this motherboard but they are quite well used modules (in fact I have a few myself that get put in all sorts of systems) and tend to be very compatible in general where DDR3 is called for. They will default to 1333 but you can use the attached XMP (eXtreme Memory Profile) to automatically overclock the system to take full advantage of the RAM. Normally this will then give a reading of 1600Mhz and 1.50v. Just save and exit to use.

Hi Mantis
problem is this motherboard (GA-990FXA-UD7) only supports ram 1.5 volts, the Dominator class I have is 1.65 volts this would probably burn out the motherboard as well as cause system stability problems, I do not know everything about voltage control of ram or how the BIOS would set the voltage control so sadly I think I will need to purchase new ram which is a shame as the Dominator class is considered the Elite of the consiar brand which really sucks anyway thanks for the advice.

No worries they will work and wont burn out anything. Just set timing to what it calls for if you need to bump voltage it is easy but i bet you wont have to. Im using 16 gigs rated at 1.65 and they are running at 1.5 and 1600 with timings called for.

As autotech & Mantis say they should be okay.
It's a pretty solid board.

Can I ask do you have the same board as I have? and you have had no problem thanks for the advice I will take this into consideration my board is the (GA-990FXA-UD7) model.

Just also ask is SPD Latency 9-9-9-24 represent the timing for the memory.
