Will my 970A-D3 mobo take a FX8150 processor? All the support lists seem to stop at the 8140 version.
-
You are correct the 8150 isnt supported. If you try it it will either work at reduced capacity or wont post at all wich is more likely
-
Even if it works/starts ,it will not work for to much time.
At a first stress test the motherboard will either turn off ,either the CPU VRM will burn.
It is removed because the board can t take it due to a weaker CPU VRM.
Get a UD3 version.

I have a gigabyte motherboard that supports 4 core amd chip at 90 watts but doesnt support the model above at 125 watts. I had that motherboard running with that 125 watt chip for a little over a year and sold it to a friend to put in his. It says unknown processor and runs fine at stock and he has had for about 1 and a half years now. Maybe i was just lucky as i have had both one that ran with an unsupported chip and one that wouldnt post and the one that wouldnt post i had to downgrade cpus to flash bios to use other cpu. Either way its risky and some people dont have the money to waste if they burn one or the other up.
