Title: could be landed with a mobo that doesn't work
Post by: cookiebun on September 18, 2012, 11:52:30 am
Hi I had an e-mail from Scan this morning saying they had tested the top slot ing the motherboard and and there was no problem with it and to phone them which i did and they cannot replace it as it worked for them, I told the lady that the problem is it didn't work for me and there was a problem with the top slot, she couldn't tell me what card they used to test it, so i told her what card i had and she was going to get in touch with the testing people and see what they say, but she did say that they couldn't replace or refund it as it had tested allright for them, but she will get back to me and it might mean returning the card to me to which i said it doesn't work for me, so it would seem i have a problem , any ideas, it looks like i will be landed with a mobo that doesn't work.      HELP.

Hi cookiebun

Assuming that you have been told the truth and the full story then it would seem that you have either a problem with your graphics card or the card is just not compatible with the motherboard in some way.

I would suggest waiting to see what Scan comes back with but assuming that isn't helpful I would say make sure that the graphics card has the latest firmware installed. Also make sure the motherboard has the latest BIOS and then load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Also check that the lead you are using from the PSU to the GPU is giving an accurate 12v output.

Hi Dark Mantis, I dismantled the Z77 i rebuilt the AMD 890 System and have had no problems with the mobo or the graphics card, that is what i am using, as you see there are a few on this site that are having problems with displlay, as you say we will see what Scan comes up with I was more than pleased with the board and wouldn't like to change from Gigabyte.

Well most people are running their boards with no complaint so unless you have some weird and wonderful GPU I think it would be safe to just get another. Ask Scan if they have any problems in that respect.

Hi Dark Mantis I did ask about a replacement but she said they can't replace it as they cannot find anything wrong with it, I did think of using another supplier but got to wait for scan.

I can't understand why they are replacing it if they can't find any problem! Have they tried testing it with the same GPU as you are using ?

Hi Dark Mantis, she told me she was waiting for conformation to give me a refund and i mentioned about a replacement but she said they couldn't replace it as they couldn't find anything wrong with it and all they could do is try to give me a refund, I also think it funny that they aren't returning the board to me if there is nothing wrong with it. I did ask her what GPU they tested it with but she didn't know and I asked if the would test it with an AMD 6970 as that is the card I have, mind you i might not get the refund yet, but as i said I like the board and was very please with the boot up speed and the speed installing Win 7.

Hi cookiebun

Yes I too would be suspicious of them offering to do a full refund when they say there is nothing wrong with the board.   ???

Anyway it is a result for you and so I would go for the Sniper as you suggested. I am sure that you won't be unhappy with that as it is a top board. I have the Sniper M3 which is the cut down version that is mATX and even that is a great board.

Hi, well Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3 S1155 Intel Z77 DDR3 ATX. it is, know any good web sites other than scan to use, ebuyer don't have it, Dabs and Awd-it do any info on those or do you know any others.

Awd-it usually have good prices but I don't like the way they do business. DABS used to be ok but I haven't used them for a while. I usually get most of my stuff from Ebuyer but you said they were out of stock. What about Aria ? They usually have good prices often beating Ebuyer but you normally have to pay delivery there so it makes them about the same.

http://www.aria.co.uk/

I have just checked there and they don't seem to have them either so maybe Scan it is!  ;)
