Title: GA-990XA-UD3 Can't install chipset drivers
Post by: Dredboss on September 22, 2012, 07:30:36 am
I go here
 http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3901#dl (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3901#dl) and get this
AMD Chipset Driver (include chipset \ sata raid driver) http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_amd_chipset_win7.exe (http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_amd_chipset_win7.exe)

It brings up Catalyst and only detects that I need USB 1.0 / 1.1 drivers. It doesn't detect anything else. What am I doing wrong?

I'm running Win7 64 and I just formatted C: and reinstalled win7 fresh

Hi and welcome.

Have you already installed all the drivers from the instal CD that came with the motherboard ? If so that might be why it doesn't want to load any new ones.

I have just checked and it seems to be the correct file that is offered for download. Of course I cannot do any more than that as I have different systems to you.

There is nothing wrong for 9xx chipsets , don t worry.

With 8xx chipsets the (older) package may install additionally a PCI-E driver filter of some sort and some ATI SM Bus driver.
No performance increase came from those 2 on 8xx or 7xx chipsets.

The USB 1.1 filter driver you have installed is also not needed ,Windows has it all included.

Install AMD AHCI pr RAID if needed and the USB 3 ,audio and LAN ,then simply use your PC.

You will find the same with AMD official package as well.

I don't have a dvd rom so I can't use the CD that comes with the board.

Are you saying there's no special drivers for the chipset other than USB, Audio, and LAN?

Yes ,there is no special driver needed under Windows 7 ,it simply works.

AMD does not offer any driver for 9xx chipsets from what it seems , except of the AHCI and RAID ,drivers that sometime may perform slower than the Windows included ones or may generate more issues that normal.Use this ones only after testing.
Maybe they ve observed the fact that those drivers they used to put in the packages for 7xx chipsets were useless :)

Don t worry you will not loose anything performance wise.Just make sure the audio ,LAN and video drivers are up to date and everything will be smooth as silk.
