Title: Random freeze ga-x58a-ud7 (ver2)
Post by: snofte on October 14, 2012, 11:44:37 am
Have struggled for some time with a seldom and random freeze. Must boot,no mouse, no keyboard. In windows it suddenly it freezes on the desktop while nothing else is running. Tried "everyting:"
memtest86 ok for 24 hours.
bios failsafe defaults loaded
cpu temp never over 60 celsius (watercooling).
Boot from old win xp hdd has the problem
Boot from new win7 ult clean install hdd also has the problem.

cpu stresstest for 24 hours runs ok, temp never over 60 celsius.
Have taken out the revodrive from pcie,  still the problem is there.

It might be possible that the problem occurs if display is powered off while cpu running,
then powered on again.  Does this sound possible ?
Any other suggestions ?

Hi

Firstly load Optimised BIOS Default settings not failsafe as they are geared more towards the Gigabyte board. Feel free to make any other changes that you would normally do afterwards like disabling the full screen logo etc.

I don't think that your idea of the display being turned on/off would make any difference what so ever.

Thanks for comment.  Have selected optimized default as suggested without other changes. (bios FD now, same problem on older FC)
Still seldom freeze after standing for a long time idle on desktop.
Cant blame windows as mentioned, must blame the hardware. But what component ?
Ram modules have been cleared by memtest86. (or maybe not, should i replace them ?)
Or should I now maybe put in another vga.card ?
Any suggestions most appreciated.

SOLVED !
Changed all ram-sticks.  Did not help.
Since win xp and win 7 all gave same problem, software was ruled out.
So I changed the vga card, and bingo : No more random feeze !
(it was a silent gf 9500gt)
