Title: Z77-D3H wakes itself from shutdown
Post by: dannyboy on October 15, 2012, 01:34:13 pm
Hi all

I recently replaced my old mobo and cpu with a Z77D3H (rev 1.0) and ivy bridge 3770. It's all working fine except for one annoyance - this board constantly switches itself back on after I've shut it down. Often it's within a few seconds of shutting down.

However, I noticed while testing this morning that if I disconnect my USB optical mouse (from the rear ports) the problem stops. Also, if I connect it to one of the headered USB ports on the front of my case, the problem doesn't occur.

I've checked in my BIOS power options, and 'wake on mouse' is disabled. So is this a bug in the BIOS that's ignoring the wake on mouse setting, but only for the rear USB ports? I'm on latest F18 BIOS, by the way.

cheers
Dan

Hi

You seem to have covered all the normal things I would check for a start. Double check the power saving options in the BIOS and Windows. Sometimes it is something just hidden away often in the Windows side of things and we forget to check there.

Try a different mouse and see if the problem still occurs. Also try turning down the sensitivity of the mouse to see if that helps. You could always try reverting to a slightly older version of the BIOS if you find nothing else helps.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought about connecting my mouse via a PS/2 adapter to see if it helps, but then I remembered this board only has one PS/2 port (which my keyboard is using). I might borrow a spare USB mouse from work and see if it's any different.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has a similar issue though. Do you know if there any new BIOS updates on the horizon for this board, out of interest, as I can't help thinking this is something BIOS-related.

One thing I should also mention is that I do have WOL enabled, as I frequently use this to wake my PC from my place of work. However I have ruled this out as a possible cause by removing the ethernet cable when the PC is off, and even trying a different NIC. In both cases the problem still occurred.

As a confirmation try disabling WOL and see if it still happens.
